klingt gut 2018 4th International Symposium on Sound is a conference / festival at the intersection of art and technology. Artists, scientists and engineers share ideas and inspiration in paper presentations, performative lectures, fixed media concerts / screenings, in performances and exhibition, in workshops and tutorials. klingt gut 2018 is hosted by the Audio Engineering Society (AES) North German Professional Section and Hamburg Student Section, and by Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
Submission Guidelines
All artwork and paper proposals must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another conference or festival. The following categories are welcome:
- Artwork, in form of Performative Lecture (live artwork presentation including full paper), Fixed Media, Installation, or Performance.
- Paper, in form of Lecture (full paper) or Poster.
- Tech Demo (live technical presentation with or without full paper).
Conference language is English. The duration of fixed media pieces and performances should not exceed 30 minutes. Technical setups available at the conference include 17-channel loudspeaker circle with object-based panning in the main conference venue, and venues/studios with 5.1 surround, 8-channel circle, 12-channel 3D audio (8+4), 33.2 loudspeaker dome (4+8+8+8+4+VoG), and VR.
In all cases, including Fixed Media submissions, the personal attendance of accepted artists / authors at the conference is mandatory. Registration to the conference is free of charge for contributing artists and authors.
Paper, Artwork and Tech Demo submissions may be complemented with the submission of a full paper, which will be included in the klingt gut 2018 Conference Proceedings. Full paper manuscripts can be submitted until the date of the conference.
Artwork submissions by students* are eligible for participation in the klingt gut Student Awards, in the categories (1) Excellence in Art, Design and the Production of Sound, and (2) Excellence in the Application of New Technologies in Sound Art and Sound Design. In 2018, a Special Award will be presented for Sound for VR and Video Games.
*applies to undergraduate, graduate and PhD students; graduation no longer than 6 months past by the date of the conference.
