IIID Traffic & Transport Forum 2017
Information as a (Public) Service
The International Institute for Information Design (IIID) has been organising focused, practice-orientated events about information design for traffic, transport and mobility since 2006. The Forum serves the shared interests of planners, designers, researchers, suppliers, users, transport authorities, educators and others in the field.
Submission Guidelines
The following categories of contributions are welcome:
- 20 minute presentation (including audience questions) in the plenary sessions on 23 and 34 November
- 5 minute presentation and panel discussion in the breakfast session on 24 November
The conference language is English.
The abstract should indicate the purpose of the presentation/paper. It should be self-contained and understandable by the general reader and be free from specialized jargon, acronyms and abbreviations.
Quality of contributions
Closer to the conference date we will ask you to send us your presentation. For either type of presentation we expect supporting slides.
If your presentation is supposed to be 20 minutes long, getting through 45 slides is almost impossible. A good rule of thumb for most people is 1 slide for every 3 minutes of presentation. The best thing to do is time yourself in advance!
Make sure your slides are readable. In general, nothing below 18pt type is going to be readable by anyone not in the first few rows. 24pt and up is usually safe.
The basics for good presentations are described in “Power Notes” by Per Mollerup, available on the IIID website.
List of Topics
- Who owns information (design) for mobility – designers, communities, transport providers?
- Can public authorities impose design qualities on private services?
- How can design qualities for private services be defined?
- Who moderates/advocates the design process in the public interest?
- Can communities find a balance between the urge to standardise and the need to localise?
