Urban areas are vulnerable to disaster due to their location which are often in hazard-prone area such as: along coasts or on floodplains, near active faults and volcanoes, or in location prone to tropical cyclones and severe storms. All the physical conditions in combination with rapid urbanization which puts pressure on land and service if not met with sustainable planning can exacerbate the impact of a natural disaster (flooding, storm surges, land movement, earthquake and tsunamis, etc) become major hazards which cause loss of life, property damage or even economic damage in affected areas.
As a precaution against the possibility of these disasters in the future, it is very important to prepare disaster resilient infrastructure. For that reason, the theme of "International Conference on Urban Disaster Resilience (ICUDR)" becomes important to be chosen in order to gain valuable ideas from relevant experts from various parts of the world. The conference will bring together universities, local governments, communities, NGOs, research organizations, education partners and the private sectors to share ideas and practices around disaster resilience in urban areas.
