Idea of ICSA
The 5th ICSA connects developers, scientists, users, and content creators for spatial audio systems as well as providers for spatial audio services in a multidisciplinary way. The addressed spatial audio systems and services should also fit into the broad concepts of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.
The aim outlined above raises four focal points:
I. Development and scientific investigation of technical systems and services for spatial audio recording, processing, and reproduction.
II. Creation of content for reproduction via spatial audio systems and services.
III. Use and application of spatial audio systems and content presentation services
IV. Media impact of content and spatial audio systems and services from a media science perspective.
The two-and-a-half-day conference will provide oral presentations and poster sessions as well as workshops and audio demonstrations. A company exhibition demonstrating new products and solutions completes the conference.
Contributions are welcome to all audio-related topics, addressing scientific and practical solutions of both common and new problems, description of new challenges, and multidisciplinary approaches in the fields such as:
• Binaural capture and rendering over headphones and loudspeakers
• BRIR and HRTF modeling and derivation from optical and/or acoustic measurements
• Multichannel audio
• Spatial sound field exploration
• Object-based and channel-based audio
• Virtual and augmented environment modeling
• Spatial audio quality, compression, and streaming
• Spatial auditory perception and psychoacoustics
• Listening tests and evaluation
• Audio capture and synthesis
• Audio production for VR/AR/MR
• Content creation and sound design for VR/AR/MR
• Music composition for VR/AR/MR
• Impact of VR/AR/MR from a media science point of view
• Telepresence and live AR/VR/MR audio production
• Future applications in VR/AR/MR
• Audio standards for VR/AR/MR applications
Contributions may be oral presentations, posters, or workshops, which all may include a peer-reviewed or a non-peer-reviewed written paper. The peer-review is done by at least two experts in the fields of audio and acoustics. The conference proceedings are published by Verband Deutscher Tonmeister.
Papers
For non-peer-reviewed papers, title and abstract (max 250 words) have to be submitted until 9 June 2019; the deadline for the non-peer-reviewed full paper (max 8 pages) is 2 August 2019. The peer-reviewed papers have to be submitted as full papers (max 8 pages) until 9 June 2019. The paper template in MS Word or LaTeX should be used. Acceptance will be announced by the Technical Program Chairs at 27 July 2019. In addition to a lecture, a practical demonstration of your non-commercial project is also possible. Please let us know in good time to find an arrangement.
Posters
Poster contributions should include a paper which may be peer-reviewed or non-peer-reviewed. Posters should preferably be in portrait format (100 cm x 70 cm). Other formats should be announced in advance. A short presentation and promotion of the poster (max 2 minutes) should be carried out before the actual poster session. For this purpose, all poster presenters are asked to participate in a so-called poster madness. In addition to a poster, a practical demonstration of your non-commercial project is also possible. Please let us know in good time to find an arrangement.
Workshops
Workshops may be presentations, lectures, or panel discussions. Workshop submissions should include the title and an abstract (max 250 words) as well as further information, like the amount of participants, the planned duration, the equipment required (audio reproduction system, a projector or monitor, etc.). The workshop submission deadline is 2 August 2019.
A list of all rooms and technical equipment available is provided at https://vdt-icsa.de/en/2019/ (in due time). Workshops may include a non-peer-reviewed paper. If it should be part of the conference proceedings, the paper should be submitted until 2 August 2019; otherwise, there is no submission deadline for workshop papers. The paper-provisions concerning amount of pages and template usage apply. Alternatively, each workshop may include a collection of presentation slides in PDF format. The slides or the paper should be submitted not later than 7 days after the conference to be an additional part of the final conference proceedings.
Others
This category is intended for any kind of non-commercial presentation of a project or a demonstration of a practical work with a hands-on approach. Please let us know in good time to find an arrangement. A title and abstract should be submitted until 2nd August 2019.
If you have any questions, please contact icsa2019@tu-ilmenau.de
Publication
The conference proceedings are published by Verband Deutscher Tonmeister on their web page not earlier than 10 days before the conference. A final version of the proceedings is updated after the conference, which can includes additional content from workshops etc.
Registration
A reduced registration fee will be available for authors and for members of the Verband Deutscher Tonmeister or its partner associations. At least one author of each contribution must pay to register for the conference, and attend to present. The authors’ rate will be available for any author wishing to attend the conference.
