With the advanced technologies, the human traditional life has been migrated to digital world. It has been observed that many of the advanced applications have been developed with the integration of advanced smart technologies like artificial intelligence, cognitive computing, machine learning, big data analytics, business intelligence and internet of things. Among these technologies, Big Data Analytics with the integration Internet of Things (IoT) offers extensive variety of applications and plays a vital role in assisting and managing smart city applications.
Internet of Things (IoT) has transfigured traditional human life to smart life system. The goal of IoT is to “connect the unconnected”. The unpredictable growth in the number of devices connected to IoT and the rapid increase in the volume of data generated, this evident the necessity of Data Analytics for various IoT applications. There are various applications that are yet to be solved and aims to offer a potential solution for Smart City. IoT plays a predominant role in the growth of smarter applications in various domains. Moreover, we require the support of big data analytics in analysing and processing huge datasets in a secure, safe and efficient manner. With the use of data analytics algorithms, we can develop applications for smarter cities like traffic prediction system, smart traffic management, smart parking system, smart healthcare, smart waste disposal system, smart environment, etc., These applications may not be possible without the support of IoT, which connects, coordinates and communicates the devices namely “things”. The convergence of IoT and Big Data is essential in providing energy-efficient solutions for smarter cities. This addresses the necessity of integrating IoT and Big Data in providing energy-efficient solutions for smart cities.
The primary objective of this book is to identify the trends in the field of IoT integrated with Big Data Analytics (IoT-BDA), and to dig out various energy-efficient solutions for promoting smart city applications. This investigates the recent technological advancements and achievements in the said area and also it aims to discover the recent trends in IoT and Big Data Analytics to push the smart city concepts to the next level. This book will also provide the future research directions of IoT-BDA in terms of offering better solutions for smart cities.
