Introduction to the conference
The University of Palermo and the University of Enna “Kore” are pleased to invite the hydroinformatics international community to the 13th International Conference on Hydroinformatics (HIC 2018).
Hydroinformatics is a branch of informatics which concentrates on the application of information and communications technologies (ICTs) in addressing the increasingly serious problems of the equitable and efficient use of water for many different purposes. Hydroinformatics scientific community is continuously growing and its interests are widening from numerical modelling to the development of new sensors and tools, the interpretation of increasing amounts of data, the analysis and management of complex systems, the integration of models, data and controls for practical applications.
Today, multi-disciplinarity is the key for the sustainable management of water resources. The work of the IAHR/IWA Joint Committee on Hydroinformatics and of several International Water Association Specialist Groups has demonstrated the importance of knowledge integration among scientists, practitioners and technology experts in order to tackle the complex challenges of water management in a changing world.
HIC 2018 seeks to create a forum for exchanging ideas, for promoting ground-breaking technologies, for proposing new extensive collaborations, for finding new solutions for water management and environment preservation.
Submission Guidelines
Authors are invited to submit a 4-page extended abstract which will include introduction, material and methods, results and discussion, conclusions and references. To be accepted for the Conference, the submissions must report work that is novel, well described, and suited to the Conference themes.
Submissions must contain original data and meet international ethical standards. Selection criteria include high technical quality, relevance to the conference themes, and significant information content. Abstracts that are deemed commercial in nature will not be accepted.

Palermo
The Conference will be held in a peaceful and amazing location of one of the most attractive cities of Italy – Palermo.Palermo is the capital of the island region of Sicily in Italy. It is located in the northwest of the island of Sicily, right by the Gulf of Palermo in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Throughout the history, Palermo has always been a place, where different points of view have been presented and discussed to figure out balanced and sustainable solutions.Powered by sea, Palermo in summer is an exciting venue. We look forwards in Palermo for fruitful discussions and leanings.
The Conference Venue
The University of Palermo will be hosting the HIC 2018 from the Aula Magna of the Polytechnic School (Edificio 7) and the Complesso Didattico (Edificio 19). The Conference Venue (Viale delle Scienze, Edificio 7 and 19) is reachable via bus service from the city centre or the central station (number 108, 109, 104, 118, 234) and metro (Palazzo reale/Orleans station).
Bus service: the ticket for the buses (operated by AMAT) is available from tobacco vendors, some bars and some news’ agents (or the AMAT kiosk in Via Libertà next to Politeama), and it is valid for 90 (ninety) minutes. You must stamp the ticket in one of the machines near the entrances of the vehicle upon boarding the first bus you take using that ticket.
Metro service: the ticket for the metro (operated by Trenitalia), in the metropolitan area of Palermo, is available in metro stations and it is valid for 90 (ninety) minutes and for a single ride. You must stamp the ticket in one of the machine in the metro station before boarding the metro.
