A Public Humanities Conference designed to bring together scholars in the humanities to both foster interdisciplinary conversations on the topic of beliefs in conspiracy theories, and to educate interested members of the public.
Submission Guidelines
Please submit an abstract related to the list of topics below, but broadly that engages with the theme of belief in conspiracy theories from a humanistic perspective. Abstracts should be 400-600 words, and should be suitable for presentation to a broad audience, including members of the public, in 20-25 minutes.
List of Topics
- Rationality/epistemic aspects of belief in conspiracy theories
- Misinformation and fake news' connection to conspiracy theories
- Analysis of belief in conspiracy theories from a humanistic perspective, including but not limited to scholars of history, English, literature, philosophy, linguistics, anthropology, religion, media studies, film, and art.
For graduate students and early career scholars, some funding to cover travel expenses will be available. We will aim to have the conference in person in Rochester, NY in April 2022, pending any safety concerns or restrictions. If restrictions do not allow a fully in-person conference, we will switch to a hybrid or completely virtual event.
Keynote Speakers
- There will be two keynote speakers involved in the conference. Both are TBD and will be announced as soon as they are confirmed to attend.
