The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati organises the Graduate Research Meet (GRM) every year in its scenic campus on the banks of the Brahmaputra river in Assam. It is an initiative of PhD students of the Department, mentored and enthusiastically supported by faculty members. The GRM aims to bring together a diverse range of interdisciplinary researchers and offer a platform to showcase innovative and cutting-edge research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. IITG-HSS is a vibrant center for research which includes academics and students from nine different disciplines: Archaeology, Economics, English, History, Linguistics, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology.
The primary objective of the GRM is to highlight the interdisciplinarity and significance of cutting edge research in the humanities and social sciences. It also aims to explore the varied and complex methodologies which underpin such research. The GRM does not have a theme or topic. This is because the conference aims to provide a much-needed platform for research students and early career researchers, especially from the North Eastern region of India. This strategy also inspires interdisciplinarity, which IITG-HSS is particularly well-equipped to foster. This being said, North East studies in any discipline are particularly welcome in the conference.
This is an event organized for students by their peer group. It therefore offers an excellent opportunity for doctoral students across the country, and particularly from the North East, to present their findings and work-in-progress and receive valuable feedback from peers and experts alike.
*Please understand that this is a PhD and M.Phil students ONLY conference and hence, persons with a PhD cannot be an author or a coauthor.
