Keynote speakers
MILFORD BATEMAN, Ph. D., is a Visiting Professor of Economics at Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia, Adjunct Professor of Development Studies at St Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada, and Affiliated Researcher at the Future Forum in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Dr Bateman obtained his PhD from the University of Bradford (UK) in 1993. From 1991 to 2000 Dr Bateman held a tenured position as Assistant Professor then Associate Professor in East European Economics at the University of Wolverhampton. As a freelance consultant from 2000, he has worked on local economic development projects for almost all of the major international development agencies with assignments in the Middle East, China, Africa and Latin America. Dr Bateman has also published widely on the key issues affecting local economic development, including the influential ‘Why Doesn’t Microfinance Work? The Destructive Rise of Local Neoliberalism’ published by Zed Books in 2010 and which is now being prepared for a 2nd updated edition due out in 2020. His latest book published in January 2019 by Routledge in cooperation with UNCTAD and co-edited with Stephanie Blankenburg and Richard Kozul-Wright is entitled ‘The Rise and Fall of Global Microcredit: Development, Debt and Disillusion’. Finally, his most recent work with Maren Duvendack and Nicholas Loubere seeks to critically assess the development impact of the global ‘fintech’ (financial technology) movement epitomised by such as Kenya’s iconic M-Pesa.
William (Bill) C. Gartner, Ph.D., is professor in the Applied Economics Department at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. Email: wcg@umn.edu). His research interests include branding, image, economic impact, and tourism development. He has worked extensively in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Africa and holds visiting professor positions at four different international universities. He is the author of numerous journal articles, book chapters and books on tourism development. In addition, he has conducted economic impact, baseline monitoring, policy analysis and branding studies for the grape and wine industry in twelve U. S. states as part of the Northern Grapes project. He is a Fellow and past President of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism.
Professor Dafna Kariv is the Chair of the department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the Chair of NOVUS, Center of Entrepreneurship at the School of Business, Administration, the College of Management Academic Studies (COMAS), Rishon Lezion, Israel. At the Business School, she has initiated and leading the incubator and accelerator programs for entrepreneurs; she is the academic director of the thesis program; and in charge of the collaboration with Zicklin School, Baruch College, NY. Professor Kariv is Affiliate Professor at HEC, Montreal, Canada. She is the co-director of the Center for Social Business and Impact Investment, supported by the Rothschild Caesarea Foundation and Dualis Social Investment Fund. Prof. Kariv is the author of three academic books "Entrepreneurship: An International Introduction", Routledge, UK, "Female entrepreneurship and the new venture creation", Routledge, NY, and "Creating the Social Venture" (co-authored with Prof. Coleman), Routledge, NY. Her forthcoming book co-authored with Prof. Alain Fayolle (France) and Prof. Harry Matlay (UK), has been approved by Edward Elgar publishers; it is entitled: From Intention to Start--‐Up Performance: The Role and Impact of Entrepreneurship Education. Her research focuses on international entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial performance, entrepreneurial education and gender. She is a recipient of several prized funds including the European Commission funds; she is involved in many academic boards, the Ambassador of ‘German-Israeli-Startup-Exchange Program’ (GISEP); as well as consultant of the Ministry of Education for entrepreneurship programs.

Publishing
Full papers presented at the conference will be published in the Conference Proceedings Book while up to 15 selected and best papers will be published in our scientific journal “Economic Research – Ekonomska istraživanja” (indexed in Social Science Citation Index, Social SciSearch, Journal Citation Reports/Social Science Edition (Web of Science), Thomson Reuters, Cab Abstracts, EBSCO Publishing Database, Scopus, Geobase, Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Opportunities in Economics &Finance, Abi/Inform Proquest and Index Copernicus International) and up to 15 selected papers inour scientific journal “Review of Innovation and Competitiveness” (indexed in Hrčak, Google Scholar, Index Copernicus International Journals Master List, Scientific Indexing Service (SIS) database, International Scientific Indexing (ISI) and Directory of open access journals (DOAJ))free of charge.
