About the Handbook
Edgar Elgar publishes a series of research handbooks. The handbooks are research focused and contain, in many cases, a cross disciplinary set of topics. The aim is to outline current research and set out a new research agenda for the future. The handbooks contain original, specially commissioned content; a good mix of senior and emerging scholars; a lively debate between chapters and an aspiration to pave the way for future research.
The Research handbook on EU data protection will be a new addition to the series.
The handbook will be of interest to academics, students, legal scholars and post-graduate researchers. working in the areas of privacy, data protection, big data, Information Technology, EU and human rights law.
Aim of this book is to provide a scholarly, state-of-the-art overview of research and the scope of current thinking in the field of European data protection. Individual chapters shall present expert scholarly analysis and offer a vital reference point for advanced research. We welcome contributions on the following indicative topics:
- Right to data protection as fundamental right
- Data protection and digital contracts
- Interplay between data protection and competition
- Interplay between data protection and consumer law
- Enforcement of data protection
- Extra-territorial scope of the GDPR
- Role of consent
- Public vs Private interests regarding processing grounds
- Data protection certification
- Data protection standards
- Processing grounds in general
- Purpose limitation and further processing
- Data collection vs data use
- Targeted advertising under legitimate interest
- Data protection and AI
Submission procedure
Authors are invited to submit via this easychair set up by 10 May 2020, a chapter proposal of 1.000 to 1.500 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of their proposed chapter.
Authors will be notified by 14 June 2020 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.
Full chapters are expected to be submitted by 29 November 2020.
All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
Chapter reviews are due by 17 January 2021 and final chapters shall be submitted by 19 March 2021.
