The 31st European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering
The 31st European Symposium on Computer-Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE-31) will take place in Istanbul from Sunday, June 6th to Wednesday, June 9th, 2021. The ESCAPE-31 event is organized under the auspices of European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE Event No. 776), CAPE Working Party(CAPE-WP), Chamber of Chemical Engineers of Turkey (KMO), and Koc University, Istanbul.
The ESCAPE conference series is held every year. The series started with ESCAPE-1 held in Denmark (1992), while the latest in the series, ESCAPE-30 has been held in Milano during August 31-September 2, 2020 in a virtual format for the first time due to COVID-19 pandemic. For more details on the ESCAPE-series visit the CAPE Working Party website.
ESCAPE-31 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners of computer-aided process engineering (CAPE) community and provide a forum to present and evaluate emerging research methods and concepts, and to learn from industrial case studies.
It is anticipated that this conference would attract a significant number of people from academia, research institutions, and industrial organizations. The symposium, including several networking activities, would cover the most up-to-date topics related to CAPE/PSE. Presentations given by distinguished European and other world-renowned plenary and keynote speakers would offer a cutting-edge to the symposium.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. All papers in the ESCAPE Series go through a two-stage peer review process: first abstracts (please use the abstract templates in Word or LaTeX) are evaluated and then the authors of the accepted abstracts are invited to submit 6-page full papers. When submitting your abstract, a preferred topic area should be selected. The scientific committee may change this selection to ensure the technical coherence of the sessions.
Submissions will be reviewed and selected by the scientific committee taking into account the following criteria:
1. Relevance and interest of the problem and its solution for the CAPE community.
2. Innovation and improvement over the current state of the art: What are major new accomplishments?
3. Significance of findings: What is the potential impact of the results to the CAPE community?
Oral presentations: Oral presentations will be given in multiple sessions. In order to maximize the number of presentations each participant could visit, we plan max. 5 sessions taking place in parallel. Each speaker will have a total of 20 min to present his/her work.
Poster presentations: About half of all contributions will be posters (size A0, portrait format), to be presented within the poster sessions (up to 1.5 hours each). The posters should be put on the stands in the morning and removed by the end of the day. We aim to organize an evaluation of the best posters and the announcement of the awards will be given at the closing ceremony.
All papers will be reviewed by the Programming Committee and a very limited number of papers will be moved from regular submission to keynote paper.
List of Topics
- Theme 1: Process-product synthesis, design and integration

Extended papers will be published in a special issue of Computers and Chemical Engineering.
Venue
Istanbul
Istanbul is a city of unparalleled social and cultural richness. It is as fascinating and historical as it is dynamic and modern. Serving as the capital of two mighty empires incessantly for sixteen centuries, Eastern Roman or Byzantine and Ottoman, and set squarely between two continents, Istanbul has cultures and traditions that blend East with West and Mediterranean with Anatolian. Each civilization that has made Istanbul its home has left its mark in sublime and splendid ways, and the result a city that gives one the feeling of universal history at every step.
With a multicultural touch and a vibrant atmosphere rooted deep in the past experiences of humanity while facing toward the future, Istanbul is truly as much a crossroads of ideas and cultures today as ever. For how many cities in the world is home to ages old churches, mosques, and synagogues in such a close proximity, showing us the possibility of a community formed of different cultures living in a state of peace and tolerance that stems from a shared human past and belief in the future?
