WORKSHOP SCOPE
EMPOWER 2019 - 1st Workshop on ICT for the Empowerment of Older Adults draws on the intersection of two major societal trends in industrialized countries: population ageing and technologically-mediated and hyperconnected daily lives. As such, this workshop aims to provide an opportunity for exchanging research and perspectives on the role of ICTs (Information & Communication Technologies) for empowering older adults with an emphasis on evidence-based approaches, methodological issues, design, practices, and visions for the future. By bringing together researchers, academics, students, designers and industry professionals, the workshop intends to be a forum to explore trends and inform advances in the field.

ICT for active ageing and ageing well

ICT for combating ageism
Studies, systems and applications on/for older adults
Systems Usability and Personalized Interfaces

Emerging technologies (e.g., IoT, robots, AI, etc.) for older adults
Inclusive Design and ICT design for/with older adults
Policy trends regarding older adults and ICTs
Paper Submission and Format Guidelines
We invite unpublished work resulting from original research, including empirical accounts, methodological advances, conceptual or theoretical approaches, and state-of-art reviews. All papers must be original and not submitted elsewhere. Submissions will be double-blind reviewed on a rolling basis to ensure a rapid decision. Therefore, authors should exclude names and affiliations during the reviewing phase and avoid references in the text that can identify them. Submissions can be of Full Papers (finished or consolidated R&D works, limited to 6 pages) or Short Papers (Ongoing works with relevant preliminary results, open to discussion, limited to 4 pages). Papers must be written in one of the official conference languages (English, Spanish or Portuguese) and must follow the conference format guidelines, available at:

Although submissions shall be done using PDF file format, camera ready versions of the accepted papers must be delivered in MS Word format also. Papers must be submitted through EasyChair, choosing the appropriate Workshop: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cisti2019workshops.
PUBLICATION
Regardless of the type of submission, the Programme Committee and Organizing Committee may suggest papers to be accepted as full-paper (6 pages), short-paper (4 pages) or posters (2 pages). Accepted full papers and short papers will be published in the conference proceedings in specific Workshop chapters. Proceedings will be submitted for indexation in EI, IEEE XPlore, INSPEC, ISI, SCOPUS and Google Scholar. Poster papers will be sent for indexation in EBSCO and EI.
