How do humans and intelligent systems understand what is happening around them — and use that understanding to predict, decide, collaborate, and act effectively and responsibly?
Now in its 17th edition, CogSIMA brings together researchers across AI and machine learning, cognitive science, human factors and ergonomics, robotics and autonomous systems, information fusion, modeling and simulation, and systems engineering to advance the interdisciplinary study of situation awareness, situation assessment, and cognitive situation management.
We welcome research that advances human and/or machine situation understanding by developing, applying, or critically examining approaches and perspectives from areas such as multimodal information fusion; AI agents, foundation models and generative AI; reinforcement learning and world models; human-AI and human-robot interaction; shared situation awareness; trust and appropriate reliance; explainability and human oversight; safety and responsible AI; decision-making under uncertainty; and situation-aware systems in real-world applications.
Regular Papers (6–8 pages) receive a dedicated 15–20 minute oral presentation.
Emerging Research / Poster Papers (3–5 pages) are also welcome and will be presented in the poster session.
Accepted and presented papers in both categories will be included in the proceedings submitted for publication in IEEE Xplore. CogSIMA also presents Best Paper and Best Student Paper Awards.
Submission deadline: 4 December 2026
