We are pleased to invite you to participate at the CoHeSION 2021 conference, the second International Conference on Heritage and Sustainable Innovation, which will take place in Timisoara, Romania, November 12-14, 2021.
The conference offers an important platform for researchers, architects, engineers and other specialists to present and discuss a wide variety of topics related to the protection of historical heritage. The topics range from theoretical studies to urban planning strategies, heritage management and technologies and techniques, represented by a great variety of case studies.
Due to the evolution of the COVID-19 worldwide, and after careful consideration of the situation, the Organizing Committee of the 2nd International Conference on Heritage and Sustainable Innovation (CoHeSION2021) has decided to organise this year’s conference in an all-virtual format.
The 2021 CoHeSION Virtual Conference will be presented using a web conferencing platform. It will be organised in presentations, of about 10-15 minutes each, in separate Sessions, grouped by topic.
The presentations will be followed by moderated group discussions and questions and answers sessions, ensuring a larger and more focused audience. The conference is becoming a setting, providing a visual platform focused on presentations, questions, feedback, brainstorming and contributions in multidisciplinary studies related to Education in Architecture and Urban planning; Architecture; Urban Planning; Heritage Management and Interior Design.

Conference these and topics
Architecture in all its shapes can be a base for identity, integrity and the « spirit of place », value, individuality, emotion and can play an important role in ensuring social cohesion and welfare of humans. Depending on the context (community, culture) it has multiple values. As activities, it can include new building design, complex heritage building conservation or restoration, urban planning and interior design but also interest towards understanding the needs of education in architecture faculties.
Therefore, in a world currently marked by social distancing the conference is trying to create o cohesion between researchers, architects and teachers, bring them together from all around the world and create a bond that will link them together. At the same time, the conference is aiming to highlight the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinarity of architecture and to stimulate focused discussions concerning current challenges in online education in architecture faculties and architecture, urban planning and interior design projects which bring forward the collaboration/cohesion between different professionals.
More than this, this year’s conference is also addressing the Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on redefining the teaching and learning experience in architecture and urban planning faculties, an up-to-date topic, focusing on the struggles of educators and developed engaging and creative online learning experiences.
Guidelines for authors
All abstracts and papers must be written in English and metric (SI) units shall be used. Up to 3 paper submissions will be allowed per presenting author, with an additional tax of 25 EUR for each paper. The articles will be published in the Journal of Architecture, Urbanism and Heritage, a peer-review academic journal that publishes original research papers and advances theory, research and practice in the fields of architecture, urban design and planning, interior design and preservation and heritage.
The papers will be included in the conference proceedings only if the presenting author has paid the registration fee before 8 November 2021. Proof of the payment should be sent by 11 November 2021 by email to ana-maria.branea@upt.ro or alexandra.keller@upt.ro
Employees of the Politehnica University of Timisoara and invited participants are exempt from the registration tax.
Extended abstract submission
Prospective authors are invited to submit up to 2 (two) page extended abstracts before 11 October 2021. The extended abstract should be prepared using the following template (click here to download template) and submitted in MS-Word format (original doc file). Please do not insert page numbers and do not secure the MS-Word.
The extended abstracts should be submitted using the following submission platform, EasyChair (click here to access).
The extended abstracts will be subjected to a review process by at least two members of the conference scientific committee. The preliminary acceptance of abstracts will be notified to the corresponding authors by 18 October 2021.
Full paper submission
The deadline for the full paper submission is 29 November 2021.
Full paper (min 8 pages) should be written in English, formatted according to the provided template and submitted as a doc (or docx) file format. To ensure the integrity of the blind peer-review process, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other. Instructions for presentations and discussion
The 2021 CoHeSION Virtual Conference will be presented using a web conferencing platform. It will be organised in presentations, of about 10-15 minutes each, in separate Sessions, grouped by topic. All papers will be presented orally.
The final conference program will be published one week before the conference together with online meeting links for each session and subsequent moderated discussions. All the registered participants will have free access to all the sessions of the conference.
English will be the official language of the COHESION Conference.
