Communications of the ACM Arabia Region Special Section CFP
Communications of the ACM (CACM), the flagship magazine of the Association for Computing Machinery, has launched Regional Special Sections to cover computing research and innovations from around the world, with roughly one such section being published every quarter.
It is our pleasure to announce that a CACM Arabia Region Special Section is scheduled to appear in April 2021, where it will include 10 to 15 articles, 1 to 5 pages each. This is a wonderful opportunity to tell the world about the unique and influential activities happening in the Arabia Region. CACM is a magazine with articles that present an overview and impact of a broader topic, leading interested readers to more detailed articles and sources present elsewhere.
Topics of interest would include:
-
Computing research highlights: State-of-the-art computing research undertaken in the Arabia region in areas including but not limited to NLP, Vision, Data Analytics, Networking, Security, Mobile, Sensors. Articles with a theme that has special relevance are likely to be more suitable than those presenting narrow research results. Descriptions of prestigious and traditional regional conferences, schools, and other research related activities are welcomed.
-
Arabia region education: Significant Arab world efforts related to education with interesting computing aspects.
-
Industry and startups: Opportunities and challenges in the industry and startups in the Arab world.
-
Societal impact using technology: The Arabia region is home to a large number of societal challenges in all areas: health, energy, transportation, economic development, etc. Examples of making a significant impact on the society through the use of computing should be of interest to the global audience.
-
Government and digital technology: The Arabia region has seen a number of experiments in the use of computing technologies by the government, and in the way the population is empowered. Experiences and learning from these efforts will be ideal to be featured in the Arabia section.
If you would like to contribute to this regional special section, please submit your abstract by August 5th, 2020. Your abstract will be reviewed by a committee of experts, who will select a subset of the submitted abstracts for a short online workshop presentation to be held on August 29-30, 2020 (free registration). The selection criteria will first consider the submission quality. Then, among high quality submissions, the reviewing committee will strive to achieve a diverse program including geographical and topic diversity.
Shortly after the workshop, the reviewing committee will decide on the topics and papers to be included in the CACM Regional Special Section. Presenters of selected abstracts will be notified to extend their abstract to full papers (1-5 pages). Based on topic similarity, the reviewing committee may ask several presenters to coordinate and co-edit one full paper together.
If you have submitted an abstract, but could not attend the workshop, your abstract will still be considered for a full paper if it passes the quality and diversity measures and is considered a fit within the regional special section topics.
