The Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE) announces AGILE 2021, the 24rd AGILE Conference, which will take place virtually on June 8 – 11, 2021. AGILE 2021 is being organized in collaboration with the Spatial Informatics Research Unit (www.senselab.tuc.gr) of the Technical University of Crete (www.tuc.gr).
For the first time the 2021 AGILE Conference is held virtually and this constitutes a great opportunity to expand the visibility, inclusiveness and broadness of the event.
Researchers, developers, lecturers, students, and practitioners in all facets of Geo-Information Science and Technology and their applications, are cordially invited to the conference, to present ongoing research, showcase products, network with colleagues from Europe and the rest of the world, and find out about the latest developments in the field. The conference theme for AGILE 2021 is "Geospatial Technologies: on the verge of change", aiming to highlight the role of geospatial technologies in the current demanding circumstances from local to global scales, including resilience, epidemiology, spatial infrastructure, and pandemic impact related studies.
This year’s submission fees have been significantly reduced to support authors presenting their work from around the globe. Graduate and PhD students are further supported through the considerably lower fees, and gain high visibility. Agile 2021 following last year’s practice will further support reproducibility on submitted manuscripts. In addition, all accepted submissions will be published as Open Access articles to gain further visibility.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:
Full-paper submissions (4000 to 6000-word manuscript) of original and unpublished fundamental scientific research. High-quality scientific submissions will be accepted for presentation at the conference and published in the AGILE: GIScience Series of Copernicus Publishers.
Short paper submissions (2000 to 3000-word manuscript) of original and unpublished research work. High-quality scientific and strategic (industrial and governmental) submissions will be accepted for presentation at the conference and published in the AGILE: GIScience Series of Copernicus Publishers.
Poster submissions (500 to 1000-word manuscript) of original scientific and strategic research work. High-quality submissions will be accepted for poster presentations at the conference and provide the exceptional opportunity to stimulate scientific discussions and exchange novel ideas.
Note: Papers must be written in English according to the formatting guidelines, and should not contain any information able to reveal (co)author identity as AGILE 2021 is running a blind review process. All submissions have to follow to the AGILE Reproducible Paper Guidelines: https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/CB7Z8. The reproducibility chair invites all members of the AGILE community, but especially early career researchers, to self-nominate for the reproducibility committee. Please contact Daniel Nüst (daniel.nuest@uni muenster.de) if you are interested to contribute to increasing transparency, reproducibility and reusability of GIScience research. See the Reproducible AGILE website for more information.

Contributions are invited, however, on all topics within the field of Geographic Information Science and Technology. As the conference theme is "Geospatial Technologies: on the verge of change", relevant contributions are particularly welcome to address current challenges in our changing world. In addition, contributors are encouraged to propose new themes, both for presentations and workshops, as AGILE seeks to ensure that new perspectives on research and education in geographic information science are fully represented at the conference to help shaping the future European research agenda in this field.
