The Question of China’s Leadership in a New World Order

The current geopolitical landscape has undergone significant transformations, particularly in the wake of the 2024 U.S. election, which has brought major political shifts and is presently reshaping global alliances. Among these changes, the relationship between China and the United States stands out as a defining factor in the evolution of international affairs. As the U.S. withdraws from key global organizations, China faces both opportunities and challenges in assuming a more prominent leadership role on the world stage.

Since the launch of its reform and opening-up policy in 1978, China has experienced unprecedented economic growth, lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty and expanding its global influence. The country’s growing economic power and political assertiveness have propelled it into a central position in global governance.

In this new and uncertain global order, critical questions emerge: How will China navigate the shifting balance of power? Can it leverage its economic and diplomatic resources to establish a leadership role in global institutions? How can China further strengthen its relationships with allies, develop its domestic economy, and establish new alliances during a time of global power shifts and conflicts?

The 2025 International Conference of ACPSS invites scholars from multiple disciplines—including history, political science, sociology, law, international relations, economics, education, and communication, etc.—to explore the complexities of China’s rise in a rapidly changing world. We welcome paper and panel proposals that examine China’s domestic and foreign policies, its evolving relationship with the U.S., its engagement with multilateral organizations, and its broader impact on global governance in the new era as well as broader historical background and context that has shaped these recent developments.

当下，地缘政治格局正经历深刻变革，美国大选所引发的重大政治变动，对全球联盟格局产生了重塑作用。在此变革浪潮中，中美关系的走向无疑是左右国际事务发展的关键因素。伴随美国从部分重要全球性组织的退出，中国于世界舞台之上的领导角色愈发凸显，在迎来诸多机遇的同时，也不得不面对一系列挑战。

自1978年开启改革开放的伟大征程，中国经济便驶入高速增长的快车道，数以亿计的人口成功脱贫，中国的全球影响力也与日俱增。不断增强的经济实力，以及积极明确的政治主张，让中国在全球治理中逐步占据了核心位置。

在这全新的，充满变数的全球秩序下，一系列重要问题亟待解答：中国该如何在不断变化的力量对比中找准方向、稳健前行？能否充分借助自身的经济与外交资源，在全球机构里稳固并确立领导地位？在全球权力格局加速转移、冲突频发的当下，中国又能否有效缓和与西方的紧张关系，进而结交新的盟友？

 ACPSS诚邀来自人文社会学科不同专业方向的学者--包括历史学、政治学、社会学、法学、国际关系、经济学、教育学、语言学和传播学等—共同探讨中国在这风云变幻的世界中崛起所面临的复杂问题。本次ACPSS第30届年会暨国际学术研讨会议以中、英双语为正式会议语言，欢迎人文社会学科的各位同仁齐聚一堂，围绕如下议题展开深入研讨：
