AsiaBSDCon 2023 Call for Papers
AsiaBSDCon is a conference for users and developers on BSD based systems. The next conference will be held in Tokyo, in March-April 2023. The conference is for anyone developing, deploying, and using systems based on FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, DragonFlyBSD, Darwin, and MacOS X. AsiaBSDCon is a technical conference that aims to collect the best technical papers and presentations available to ensure that the latest developments in our open source community are shared with the widest possible audience.
How to Submit
Abstracts and papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format. Go to the submission page and submit your paper with the following information in the "topic" and "keyword" field:
- "Topic" in the submission form must be "Paper" if you are submitting a paper.
- "Keyword" field must have name of the speaker in the author list, whether a visa application is required or not to visit Japan, and estimation of your travel expense
Please enter them because the technical program committee will support the airfare and hotel accommodation fee of the accepted speakers. Note that this support is limited to one speaker for each paper. If a paper has multiple authors, please make it clear who will be the speaker. The technical program committee will send the necessary documents if an accepted speaker needs a visa application to visit Japan. And if you need financial support for reasons such as being a full-time student, please contact secretary@asiabsdcon.org.
The initial submission of your paper must be in the form of a complete paper or an extended abstract between 2 and 12 pages long (A4 paper) in English. It is strongly recommended to use IEEE conference proceedings template for your paper. While there is no particular limitation for the abstract, submissions that are much beyond this template, such as too long, too short, or talk proposals with no associated paper will be rejected. Submissions should be written from a strong technical background and should clearly demonstrate that:
- There is a significant problem being solved or a real-world experience being demonstrated.
- There is active work being done.
- There is enough progress to make a complete written submission.
- There is data proving either the success or failure of any claims.
The technical program committee is interested in all technical areas related to the BSDs, including user applications, novel interfaces, networking, embedded systems, security, device support, systems both inside and outside the kernel, and real-life experience using BSD.
Include appropriate references to establish that you are familiar with related work, and where possible, provide detailed data to establish that you have a working implementation or measurement tool. Submissions will be judged on the quality of the written submission and whether or not the work is of interest to the community. Business development or marketing pieces are not appropriate for submission.
All of the authors will be notified by 24 January 2023. All accepted submissions will be expected to produce a final paper for publication in the proceedings and electronic files for the conference website by 17 February, 2023. The final paper should describe work that has been completed as of the time of their submission. If necessary, members of the program committee will help shepherd authors through the writing process prior to final acceptance for publication in the proceedings.
Note that each accepted paper must be presented by at least one author. The conference will be held in a hybrid format. If you cannot attend the conference due to circumstances beyond your control, virtual attendance is always an option. All papers should be considered 'open source', and as such, non-disclosure agreements and other limits will require us to return the paper.
If you have questions or encounter problems or want to discuss potential submissions and for inquiries regarding the content of the conference program, please send electronic mail to the program chair at secretary@asiabsdcon.org
Tutorial Proposal
AsiaBSDCon offers full and half-day tutorials on a range of topics from experts in the BSD community. Topics range from how the kernel works to administering and securing BSD systems.
We continually solicit proposals for new tutorials to provide the best possible tutorial offerings. If you are interested in presenting a tutorial, please submit your proposal as an abstract with your biography, and outline of the contents, including time and target audience using the paper submission form with "Topic" as "Tutorial Proposal." Fill the same information in the "keyword" field as a paper submission. A 1 or 2 pages summary of them in PDF would be sufficient as a tutorial proposal.
