- Live In-Person Only (Providence, Rhode Island)

Session Types:
The conference curriculum will have six session types and proposal authors are invited to select the session type they believe best aligns with their proposed session format and content.
- Dialogue (45 minutes, 1–4 facilitators) A dialogue session is an engaging session that provides time for colleagues to discuss a topic or an emerging issue relevant to assessment of learning in higher education through iterative sharing of expertise and experiences. In this interactive session, facilitator(s) assist the group in examining topics and strategies for moving forward given the professional reality and expertise of each individual in the room. Session Deliver Options: Live In-Person, On-Demand or Both.
- Panel (45 minutes, 1 moderator) Panels are structured conversations about a specific issue or topic. Panels specify a current or emerging issue to be addressed, establish an initial set of questions and are moderated. These sessions also include an opportunity for questions from attendees to expand upon panelists' responses. Session Deliver Options: Live In-Person, On-Demand or Both.
- Paper Session (45 minutes, up to 4 presenters) One to four Authors present their research that focus on a single issue. The paper can present theory, research and/or practice on topics related to the conference theme or on the assessment of student learning. One to four authors could also present two to three papers that focus on a single issue from multiple perspectives. Papers must be submitted with the proposal and represent completed work prepared according to the seventh edition of the APA Publications Manual. Session Deliver Options: Live In-Person, On-Demand or Both.
- Pre-Conference Workshop (3-hour half day or 6-hour full day, 1-4 facilitators) A pre-conference workshop is a working session that engages participants in developing skills in specific models and strategies in assessment practice. Pre-conference sessions provide attendees an opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills with additional time for interaction. Pre-Conference sessions are 3-hour half day or 6-hour full day sessions that occur prior to the conference beginning.
- Pre-Recorded On-Demand Lightning Session (15 minutes, 1-2 facilitators) Lightning Sessions are meant to give opportunities for brief and specific topic engagement. These sessions invite graduate students, seasoned professionals, and everyone in between to present good practices, thought exercises, and imaginative ideas related to learning assessment in a concise manner. Presenters will pre-record 15-minute presentations that will be made available in an on-demand format on the conference platform. A lightning session should spark new insights and conversations among viewers.
- Skill Development Workshop-Theory to Practice (90 minutes, 1–4 facilitators) Skill development sessions provide opportunities for participants to bridge theory with practice. These are working sessions that engage participants in developing skill in addressing specific opportunities and challenges in assessment of learning, and in working together to develop skill in specific models and strategies in assessment practice.
Session Tracks
The conference curriculum will have four tracks and proposal authors are invited to select the track they believe best represents their content.
- Communities of Data: Using and communicating data and to ensure all students are learning. This track focuses on sharing practices of assessment data collection, representation or visualization to inform improvements to curriculum and instruction.
- Communities of Engagement: Engaging and building relationships with faculty and staff in learning outcomes assessment. This track focuses on creating a supportive culture that engages in outcomes assessment to improve student learning.
- Communities of Inclusion: Practices that engage diversity, equity, and inclusion in the context of student learning assessment. This track focuses on advocating for equity through assessment practices.
- Communities of Innovation: Sharing innovative and transformative practices to improve teaching and student learning. This track focuses on the application and practice of new methods or research in student learning assessment.
Session Levels
The conference curriculum will feature four levels of content to support attendees with identifying conference content that meets their needs. Proposal authors are invited to select the level(s) they believe best represents their content.
- Introductory - Introductory sessions are designed to serve attendees with a novice understanding of assessment. Sessions will include definitions and context that may not be necessary for intermediate or advanced sessions. While the subject matter may be quite complex, the session assumes a beginner-level understanding of assessment and assessment practices. These sessions are appropriate for entry-level assessment professionals, faculty who may be new to the assessment conversation at their institution, and graduate students.
- Intermediate - Intermediate sessions are designed to serve attendees with an established understanding of assessment. Session presenters assume an active assessment vocabulary and some experience with assessment activities. The subject matter will naturally be more complex than introductory sessions. These sessions are appropriate for mid-level assessment professionals, faculty assessment liaisons with departmental or institutional assessment experience, or advanced graduate students with assessment experience.
- Advanced - Advanced sessions are designed to serve attendees with a substantial understanding of assessment. Session presenters assume that session attendees are well-versed in assessment language and assessment practice. The subject matter for these sessions will be high-level, global concepts and advanced techniques and processes. These sessions are appropriate for assessment professionals, researchers interested in assessment subject matter, and advanced graduate students with assessment experience and research interest in assessment.
- All Levels - Sessions in this category are designed to serve attendees across a range of experiences and expertise. Session presenters make no assumptions about the audience save an interest in assessment. The subject matter can be assessment tangential or assessment specific. Assessment language or appropriate vocabulary may be introduced, but the subject matter will quickly dive deeper than introductory sessions. These sessions are designed to include cross-expertise community and provide opportunity for collaborative thinking and interaction across levels of experience.
Session Tags
The conference curriculum will include four tags to support attendees with identifying conference content that aligns with their interests. Proposal authors are invited to select the tag they believe best represents their content.
- Scholarship/Research
- Curricular
- Co-Curricular
- Practice/Application
A Note About Encouraged Collaboration
