The XXV RECLA International Summit will bring together a wide variety of experts on technology, smart learning, and sustainability education in P.PORTO to present and analyze smart learning solutions for lifelong learning, to discuss their impact and potential for transfer and scaling, and to review how real solutions perform in the real world.
Sustainable societies are built on 21st-century skills. Reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals requires a focus on a new set of knowledge, skills and attitudes as well as novel and smart strategies that leverage state-of-the-art technologies and make the skillsets widely available in our societies, to all groups of people, at any time in their lives, in professional as well as academic settings.

List of Topics
- Accessibility in Education: If we want to widely share the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to build sustainable societies, we need to make education available to everyone. How can we increase accessibility through smart learning solutions? How can we avoid erecting new barriers (digital literacy, broadband access, and others)?
- Digitalisation, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence in Education: Smart learning strategies depend on digital and technological resources. How can we make sure that these resources are created, and are widely available? How can we deal with copyright and paywalls? How can we integrate digital resources, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence into our teaching environments in a constructive way, not as a distraction? How does technology impact the effectiveness and efficiency of learning?
- Cultural Heritage and Education: Sustainable societies treat social justice as a valuable resource. This includes the preservation of cultural heritage and the appreciation of diversity. How can we create learning environments that are sensitive to cultural diversity, when the internet is too often centered on the English language? How can we leverage smart learning solutions to avoid the tendency of globalization to level all differences between individuals and peoples? How can we teach the value of history and diversity?
- Creativity and Education: Nobody claims that building sustainable societies will be easy. It will require the mobilization of vast natural, social and intellectual resources. How can we create learning environments that teach, nurture and reward intellectual curiosity, creativity, leadership and initiative? What kind of educational experiences bring out these qualities in students, what kind of experiences will hamper them? Can we build positive feedback loops that leverage the students’ creativity for the continuous improvement of our learning environments?
Venue
The conference will be held at EIPP (e-Learning and Pedagogical Innovation Unit) | Polytechnic of Porto, in Oporto city, Portugal.
