Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Surgical Decision Making
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is progressively changing the practice of surgery with the advancement of the technology. Growth in Imaging technology, navigation and robotic intervention helps the AI towards better development in the surgery domain. In this book, the recent successful and influential applications of AI in surgery are reviewed from pre-operative planning and intra-operative guidance to the integration of surgical robots. Popular AI techniques, including an overview of their requirements, challenges, and sub-areas in surgery are summarized. It describes major topics in AI, including their applications and limitations in surgery. It explains key capabilities of AI to help surgeons to understand and critically evaluate new AI applications for novel developments. It also discusses current state, emerging trends such as IOT, AR/VR etc and major challenges for the future development of AI in surgery. Inclusion of few case studies help the reader to understand the concepts better in this domain. Surgical decision making and operative surgery are two components in the surgery. AI is tremendously helping for these. Clinical decision support helps the surgeon to take decision with the support of variety of data.
