Call for Proposals
General Guidelines/Requirements
- This year’s Big 12 Teaching & Learning conference theme is “Higher Ed Disrupted: The Future of Learning.” Consistent with this theme, we invite proposals focusing on:
- Interventions enhancing student learning
- The impact of COVID on Teaching & Learning practices
- Assessment of Student Learning
- Inclusive Teaching Practices addressing systemic racism and oppression in the classroom
- Educational Research on Teaching & Student Learning (Research to Practice)
- Proposals should clearly align with one of the conference tracks and be targeted to meet the professional development needs of college and/or university faculty, assessment coordinators, administration, staff, and students.
- Proposals should fall into the format categories of oral presentation, workshop, or poster presentation.
- Oral presentations should be formatted with no more than 20 minutes of presentation and 10 minutes of activity and/or discussion. We also seek submissions for a lightning-round oral session and these presentations should be no longer than 5-8 minutes. Please note in the text of your abstract submission if you would be willing to be selected for either oral presentation format. To increase value and engagement, we're asking that all presentations have tangible takeaways.
- Workshop formats are 55-minutes and should encourage participant engagement, tangible takeaways, and evidence of best practice.
- Poster format should be digital, preferably a PDF file type. Presenters may be asked to record a short recording to post with their poster.
Learning Objectives
For all oral and workshop presentation submission types, you will be asked to provide three to five specific learning objectives that the participants will achieve from your proposed session. Learning objectives, or learning outcomes, are statements that clearly describe what the participants are expected to learn and how participants can apply this knowledge in practice or other professional contexts as a result of having attended an educational program or activity. These must be observable and measurable.
Oral Presentation Submissions
Proposals for 30-minute oral sessions that will explore an innovation, a best practice, or research-to-practice are invited. Oral presentations should be formatted with no more than 20 minutes of presentation and 10 minutes of activity and/or discussion.

Lightning Round Oral Presentation Submissions
Proposals for 5-8 minute oral sessions that showcase research, innovation, or best practice are invited. Lightning Round Oral presentations will be pre-recorded presentations submitted in a manner to allow engagement with the audience after viewing the recording.

Workshop Submissions
Proposals for workshops that explore a best practice or innovation in-depth and provides participants with practical applications and discussion are invited. The duration of each conference workshop is 55 minutes with the expectations of active participant engagement and discussion.
Submissions should include the following:

- Brief description of teaching strategies and workshop activities that will be employed (not included in word count)
