Abstract:
Risk owners need help attending to certification challenges associated with emerging technologies on critical systems. Assessing emerging technology risk needs to account for its relationship with our technology and standards, and the processes and tools need to be accessible to different stakeholders. In this paper, we present ETHICIST: a systematic approach for assessing and managing emerging certification technology risk. Our approach uses multi-criteria decision analysis and concept mapping to account for different attributes of certification risk. It also visualises the cascading impact on other technology, regulations, and systems. We illustrate this approach by considering the certification risk of additive manufactured wearable computing elements for a military air system.
