Abstract:
The following research proposal has the main objective of designing a System Dynamics model to simulate the student population in industrial engineering programs, simulating the student population towards the year 2025. The proposed system dynamics model begins with the collection of statistics on the student population proposing a convenient sample which is the Faculty of Industrial Engineering of the Santo Tomas University in the Central headquarters (Bogotá DC) having variables such as the number of students enrolled, number of graduate students and the cases of dropouts between the years 2015 and 2020. Based on the population archetype, the causal diagram and the flow and variables diagram are proposed in order to carry out the corresponding simulation in the Vensim software. Through logical and mathematical equations, it is possible to find key data such as the dropout rate, the graduation rate and the entry rate to the system, which allowed the model to be executed with a start in 2020 until the final projection at the end of the year. year 2025, in addition, the analysis of various scenarios generated by the software is carried out, which helps to measure the incidence of the variables within the model. It should be noted that this model is intended to be an aid in planning issues for the different engineering programs offered by universities.
