The main target of this paper is to present the development steps of a visible light communication (VLC) system applied to solid-state lighting (SSL) with frequency suitable to an universal software radio peripheral (USRP) hardware. The goal is establish a communication channel according to the frequency response limits of the hardware used, to make possible studies of VLC applications with real-time evaluation of the performance metrics as: Bit error rate (BER), data rate, illumination, power, and communication efficiency.
