Abstract:
Reinforcement corrosion is considered as the significant deterioration issue of RC structures in service. In this study, the effect of corrosion-induced damage on the structural performance of RC column is studied by the finite element method (FEM). Here, three dimensional (3D) non-linear finite element analysis is carried out using the software package COM 3. In the numerical analysis, corrosion-induced damage is modelled using different constitutive laws for corrosion-induced cracking, concrete and steel properties, and the bond between steel and concrete. The FEM model is validated using the experimental tests available in the literature. The load-deflection behavior and cracking patterns obtained from the FEM analysis are in good agreement with the experimental data. The findings of this study will be useful in assessing the residual structural performance of the RC columns with rebar corrosion.
