Abstract:
This article presents an excerpt from the master's thesis defended by the author in 2023, which deals with Virtual Inertia Control (VIC) for an Modular Multilevel Cascade Converter - Static Synchronous Compensator (MMCC-STATCOM). The possibility of implementing a VIC in an MMCC-STATCOM allows this equipment to contribute to increasing the system's inertia, since the insertion of renewable sources in the electrical power system, through electronic converters, influences the stability of system frequency. However, as the stored energy of MMCC-STATCOM is limited, its allocation must be carried out in the best possible way. Therefore, in this work, the improvement in frequency nadir is compared through the action of three different VICs for an MMCC-STATCOM in situations of frequency dip. This comparison is made through simulation in PSCAD/EMTDC software.
