Abstract:
This paper presents the methodology of locational value of capacitors in radial distribution systems considering the loss relief index in the system. It is highlighted that the large volume of research on capacitor allocation occurs in the scope of optimization to minimize energy losses, resulting in the presentation of the optimal bus for allocation of capacitive reactive power. The differentiated proposal of this study is to present indexes for all buses of the system, not only for the optimal bus, thus offering greater freedom for decision-making by the administrators of the distribution system who may consider other factors not related in traditional research. The methodology was applied to the IEEE 13-bus system and 7 capacitor bank scenarios with different reactive powers were considered. The results were compared with solutions found in another study that employed optimization to minimize losses in the same IEEE system and the results were very close, the only difference was that in this paper the locational value index is presented for all buses of the system and not only for the optimal node.
