Economic Origins of Witch Hunting

ABSTRACT. A number of events taking place in the twenty-first century such as mass arrests of members of the Iran President Mahmud Ahmadinezhad’s executive office accused of witchcraft make one doubt that witch hunt trials remained in the far Middle Ages. It is religious motives that are usually considered the main reason for anti-witchcraft hysteria. When analyzing the history of anti-witchcraft campaigns we came to the conclusion that in the majority of cases witchcraft was a planned action aimed at consolidating the state power and acquiring additional sources of revenue. By using economic instruments we tried to reveal some general regularities of witch hunt in various countries as well as conditions for this institution to emerge and for ensuring its stability by the state power. We show that witch hunt was an instrument of implementing institutional transformations aimed to consolidate the political power or to forfeit wealth by the state power.

Innovation and Agriculture. New Technologies in Farming.

ABSTRACT. The aim of the paper is to emphasize the influence of the agrarian laws on the modern Romanian agriculture. The incomplete character of the enacted rural legislation not only that made impossible the structural reformation of this essential economic sector, but also contributed in a great measure to the perpetuation of the "land issue" and to the malfunctioning of the agrarian Romanian holdings. The juridical provisions and the concrete appliance of the agrarian laws maintained the gaps existent between the different categories of agricultural exploitations, generating the ultra-parceling of the land and the limited seize of the great portion of the farms. That fact generated negative effects both in the agricultural sector, and in the general economic evolution, in a period of transition from modern to capitalist relations. In this respect, the paper intend to establish a causality relation between the inequitable distribution of land and the Romanian agricultural underdevelopment.

ABSTRACT. Gastronomic tourism begins to be viewed as a phenomenon as a new tourist product itself, due to the fact that more than one third of the expenses in the tourist offer of the destination are made food. Gastronomic tourism gains more importance as motivating the future in choosing the holiday destination. For these reasons, we developed a questionnaire that was applied to a total of 234 respondents, but randomly among the visitors at the Tourism Fair, which was dashed in November 2017 in Bucharest. The survey aimed at identifying the position of the fish and the gastronomy occupied in the motivation of the tourists to visit Sibiu and the surrounding areas. The results revealed that the traditional gastronomy, through its multicultural aspect, represents the second or third op visiting Sibiu. Certainly this will become even more visible, given the designation for 2019 of Sibiu as a European gastronomic region.

The Evolution of the Accounting System After the Fall of Communism - Evidence from Romania

ABSTRACT. As an ex-communist and emerging country, Romania went through several stages of reform, being politically, economically and socially affected. The first decade, after the fall of Communism, was the stage of adaptation to a new accounting system imposed by the transition to the market economy, where the state remained the main user of the accounting information. During this period Romania has implemented an accounting system based on the French system, which was used without major changes. After 2000, Romanian accounting system’s target was a better harmonization and convergence with the European directives and with the IAS/IFRS. In this period, the accounting system changed by giving new valences to the accounting information and by increasing the number of users. This paper analyses the evolution of the accounting system in Romania after the fall of communism through a longitudinal analysis, using a framework based on Carnegie and Napier’s approach (2002).

Public Administration in the Context of Social Development in Eastern Europe

ABSTRACT. In society, the premise that public administration is a multiple personality damages the rights of the parties, their collaboration and interests, citizens being most affected. We believe that society as a whole is responsible for solving social problems, within ethical and legal limits. Actions, such as communication strategies and public involvement in society, are a good model for developing the ideal modern citizen, for building a long-term, educated, solid and self-sustaining society. Although there have been many attempts to define the social responsibility concept, according to the need of organizations to associate to, the present paper prefers the definition of World Business Council on Sustainable Development. In this paper, is to see how this role is assumed by the national public administrations. The democratization of public institutions in Romania is socially aware not only through the legislative framework but also through the instruments of mass communication with the large public.

Uncertainties in Our World

ABSTRACT. The paper is a study about the problems that make this world uncertain even if the technological progress and the intercultural dialogues should help to pass over conflicts and turbulences. The new millennium faces new sources of anxiety such as: the rapid rhythm of life where the relationship with time is very important and makes us be more and more addicted to technology which helps us win time. Then the threatening of globalization has brought about tension, disorders and direct geopolitical rivalries among states in the Middle East and not only. We are passing from globalization to a multipolar condition , a complex one but the process is not over yet. We have reduced possibilities for predictability in this uncertain world where the battle for new resources and markets will continue. We may live some macroeconomic shocks.

the Importance of Selling Techniques in the Tourism

ABSTRACT. Effective sales monitoring provides the manager with a host of important information that helps him to have a real insight into the customer, which is the company's most important category of a business partner. Therefore, learning as much information about the target audience of current and potential customers will enable the manager to find the right approach to both reward existing ones and address the new ones and communicate it to the team. In-depth customer knowledge will enable the company to offer, now and in the future, a customer experience that will lead to greater brand engagement, brand awareness and, ultimately, sales. Equally, the information obtained helps to modify products or services marketed to meet customers' needs as much as possible and to reduce problems or failures that may arise from signing the contract until delivery of the contract product or service.
