Vincent Ji graduated in Beihang University on 1984 (Bachelor, Mat. Sci. & Engin.), in Université Paris-Saclay on 1986 (Master deg., Metallurgy and Mat.) and in Arts et Métier ParisTech on 1989 (PhD, Mechanics & Materials). Served successively as assistant, associated professor, PhD supervisor from 1989 to 2007 in Arts et Métier ParisTech in Paris. Since 2007, full professor in Université Paris-Saclay and director of Materials department of Polytech Paris-Saclay, the Engineering school of the Université Paris-Saclay. Distinguished Professor since 2016 and director of department of Materials, Mechanics and Energy between 2018 and 2023.

The research activities of Vincent Ji aim to the fundamental mechanisms and industrial applications of alloys’ surface strengthening, surface modifications, surface coatings and surface residual stress analysis.  Author and co-Author of more than 370 SCI indexed publications (H factor= 47 and more than 7800 citations); supervisor of 26 PhD students and 32 Master students; co-supervisor of more than 20 PhD students.
