Dr Balcazar-Arciniega is Professor Serra-Húnter at the Heat and Mass Transfer Technological Center (CTTC) from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)-BarcelonaTech, and researching the Direct Numerical Simulation of gas-liquid multiphase flows through unstructured level-set methods.

His research focuses on gas-liquid multiphase flows, heat and mass transfer, reactive multiphase flows, bubbly flows, variable surface tension, phase change, finite-volume methods on unstructured meshes, adaptive mesh refinement, and high-performance parallel computing.  His scientific motivation stems from the fundamental understanding of transport phenomena in complex flows and their industrial applications in the so-called unit operations of chemical engineering and thermal engineering.
