09:30-18:00 Excursion

For centuries, the medieval port of Bruges and the Zwin estuary formed a dynamic landscape shaped by the interplay between human activity and natural forces. The Zwin played a crucial role in establishing Bruges as a flourishing economic and cultural center, with numerous port settlements lining its shores. However, after 1500, the region experienced a decline, leaving behind a rich medieval landscape. This scientific excursion will be guided by over a decade of archaeological, historical, and geophysical research conducted by Ghent University in Bruges and its surroundings.

Participants will receive a printed excursion booklet.
