8K Super Hi-Vision Technology and Its Medical Application [Invited]

ABSTRACT. 8K, also known as Super Hi-Vision, is an ultra-high-resolution television system created by NHK. Its video format comprises 7,680 × 4,320 pixels (16 times the total number of pixels of an HDTV). 8K features four times the number of pixels as 4K, but that does not mean to say that 8K specifications are decided based on a competition in pixel count. They are determined, rather, on human science research that aims to determine the conditions under which video can provide “sense of presence” that makes the viewer feel as if he or she is actually present in the scene shown.

09:50
Development of 8K 3CMOS Sensor Camera System for Broadcast [Invited]

ABSTRACT. Development of 8K 3CMOS Sensor Camera System for Broadcast

10:40
Introduction of 8K UHDTV Test Sequences Produced by ITE and ARIB [Invited]

ABSTRACT. In this talk, I will introduce series of UHDTV test sequences which have been produced by the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers (ITE) and the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB). The series provides ultra-high definition (8K/4K), wide-color-gamut and/or high dynamic range (HDR) digital video materials in uncompressed digital formats. These materials are useful for research and development of advanced imaging technologies.

13:00-13:50 Session 26: ICAI-Print4Fab Joint Keynote

Closing Keynote

Location: Zoom Main Room

The Status and Trends of ASEAN Printing Industry and Its Challenges

ABSTRACT. Printing Industry in ASEAN countries is under way to evolve into new roles as there is more dramatic change involved in. Such change does not only just relate to Digital Technology, but also Market Trends, Customers’ behavior, Environmental issue and COVID-19 pandemic which are changing the operating environment of printing business. Publishing and commercial printing becomes saturated by which its overcapacity is a problem. This paper presented the status of printing industry in ASEAN countries. This included overview of global printing trends, the impact of COVID-19 on printing market segments, strategy to re-invent printing business and obstacles to overcome.

14:00-15:30 Session 27: ISJ: Evolution of Imaging Eco-system in the New Normal Era
Location: Zoom Main Room

How Does Telework Affect Paper Output? [Invited]

ABSTRACT. In the wake of the spread of COVID-19, telework has become quite popular in companies, and people are de-office. We organized this telework situation using externally published data, and estimated the degree of influence on print output. As a result, we found that the sales volume of PPC paper does not decrease even if the teleworking rate increases. However, as the teleworker ratio increased, the amount of PPC paper sold decreased. It can be inferred that the work style of teleworkers has a significant impact on paper output.

Society Changes 3D Printer, or 3D Printer Changes Society? - The Exploration and Practice of the Nature of Digital is Asked Now - [Invited]

ABSTRACT. 3D printers, which have a different manufacturing process from conventional methods, have the potential to drastically change the structure of society, i.e., to become a starting point for innovation. But then, in the process of changing society, it is necessary to involve the "reality" in various manufacturing processes, and the conventional "normalcy" and "inertia" must be broken down. I will briefly introduce how 3D printers have evolved to meet the needs of the current society. Next, I will clarify the issues that need to be addressed in order to change society and bring about major changes with 3D printers, and propose new approaches based on unprecedented ideas. In addition, I will introduce a new voxel-based 3D data format, FAV, which is indispensable for these approaches.

15:00
Containers and Packaging in Post-COVID-19 Era and Eco-Printing Solution [Invited]

ABSTRACT. The coronavirus has dramatically changed our lifestyle. Purchasing behavior and eating habits have also changed and it caused the importance of containers for storage and transportation is increasing. And the environmental impact of packaging containers is attracted a lot of attention. Kao has developed the water-based inkjet ink LUNAJET® and is proposing the marketing value of digital printing in flexible film packaging and the value of reducing the environmental load of water-based inks. The environmental performance of LUNAJET® was compared with conventional solvent-based gravure printing using LIME3 (Life cycle impact assessment method based on endpoint modeling 3). It is essential to involve all related industries and consumers in order to solve the environmental problems and realize sustainable recycling for packaging containers in the post-corona era.
