Bio My research interests are in the neuroscience of language. Most of my research is concerned with the study of adult language disorders subsequent to cerebral damage using interdisciplinary techniques aimed at identifying the neural processing streams that support language processing and new rehabilitation techniques for the recovery of the language functions. My current research brings together behavioral, neuropsychological and neuroimaging data from normal and brain-damaged subjects to determine the underlying general properties of human language and its interaction with other cognitive domains. Right now, I am particularly interested in investigating brain plasticity using neuromodulation techniques such as tDCS, in order to plan new therapeutic interventions for acquired language disorders. I have developed an anomia therapy approach, Action Observation Therapy, based on Mirror Neuron Theory. As for neuromodulation, I focus on tDCS, whose theoretical basis lies on the fact that electric current modifies post-synaptic activity, and can enhance performance. Thus, tDCS represents a most innovative tool in neurorehabilitation. The final aim of my work is to provide better clinical tools that will enhance therapy effects, and promote more efficient interventions in persons with aphasia. |
