Carolina Méndez-Orellana: Speech and Language Therapist, Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience. Assistant professor and Research Director of the Speech and Language School at the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Since 2019 she is deputy lead of the group Aphasia and Cognition, an international Collaboration of Aphasia Trialists (https://www.aphasiatrials.org). Her current research focuses on the development of standardized cognitive-linguistics assessment and implementing advanced neuroimaging techniques to explore language processing in the brain. In 2015 she obtained governmental funds from The National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FONDECYT 11150429) to implement functional MRI in brain tumor patients with language disorders. In 2021 she obtained The National Fund for Research and Development in Health (FONIS SA21I0065) to determine the behavioural changes and brain dynamics behind neurorehabilitation in patients with stroke. Carolina has received awards for academic excellence from Utrecht University (2007 and 2008), Best junior researcher (2017) of the Faculty of Medicine at PUC. She is the principal investigador behind the WebApp www.lenguajespontaneo.cl a clinical tool to analyze spontaneous speech in Spanish speakers.
