Blockchain Technology in Defence

ABSTRACT. Cybersecurity is a “must to do” activity to maintain computer and network systems in good order and are not an easy target to cyber threats. Blockchain is a new emerging technology that can protect data from being modified or tampered by perpetrators. With its mechanism, once the data is inserted into the chain, it can never be changed or modified. With this characteristic, many public and private sectors are looking to apply blockchain technology to increase integrity of the data that being transferred among their related parties. A country that can apply blockchain technology to support its e-Governance system successfully is Estonia. The e-Governance of Estonia, or e-Estonia, is the electronic system that facilitates all citizen interactions with the state and private organizations of Estonia. However, the cyber attacks on the e-Estonia in 2007 that shut down most of the government, bank, and media websites, had made the whole country parallelized for months. As a reason, Estonia started to develop a scalable blockchain, called Keyless Signature Infrastructure (KSI) blockchain, to ensure integrity of data stored in government repositories and also to protect these data against insider threats. So, it is clear that blockchain networks can reduce the probability of compromise, and impose significantly greater costs on perpetrators or adversaries to achieve it. Thus, it is worth to examine, research and develop blockchain technology and leverage it for government, business and military usages to increase integrity of their data.”

Heats of combustion and Fabrication of Zr/BaCrO4 and binder for Heat paper

ABSTRACT. A thermal battery is characterized by an internal pyrotechnic heat source reaction melts the electrolyte to activate the battery. The heat sources that have been used in thermal batteries are heat pellets, which are ignited by a heat paper in contact with each pellet. The high heat transfer by heat pellets causes thermal decomposition at the solid electrolytes are melted. The ignition of the heat pellets was affected by combustion properties of the heat paper. However, the combustion of the heat paper is a fundamental problem which requires a solution. In this paper, we prepared Zr/BaCrO4 heat paper with binder and investigated the characteristics of heat papers such as calorimetric value and fabricated. Results show that during combustion, the calorimetric value of Zr/BaCrO4 with 3 wt.% of nitrocellulose were increased. And the tape casting process includes depositing the slip on the carrier substrate in sheet form. In some embodiments, the pore metal sheet formed during the casting process can have any desirable shape and size suitable for the operation. Therefore, the heat paper prepared were stably ignited, burned and the combustion becomes efficient.

Pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking of austenitic stainless steel in acidic chloride environment

ABSTRACT. The investigation of austenitic stainless steel attacked by acid chloride containing environment was done. The 304 austenitic stainless steel was experimented in acid hydrogen chloride aqueous solution with mixing ratio 1:6 by mole. External applied stress by U-bending was also applied to specimen in order to further study stress corrosion cracking phenomenon. The result showed two distinguished characteristics: pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. Pitting corrosion could be found principally on bent surface but it varied in pit sizes. Intergranular and transgranular cracking manners was found at above (high level of tensile stress area) and around neutral bending axis (low level of tensile stress) respectively, but it was rarely detected at below neutral bending area because of compressive stress initiation after bending.

A Feasibility Study on the Development of MFB Military Bridge

ABSTRACT. Recent developments in the field of military bridge have heightened the need for improving of MFB military bridge under various types of military vehicles. However, little attention has been paid to influence of significant parameters playing a key role in dynamic behavior of such bridges. This paper seeks to fill such a gap by carrying out finite element (FE) analysis on an existing steel connection of MFB military bridge. For this purpose, MFB bridge is simulated by finite element software, Midas Gen. Moving load analyses are carried out to obtain the maximum moment and stress as well as the displacement of the simulated model, respectively, under a tank load at 60 tons. These results will be useful to study through the lug connection analysis to fabricate the real one in the future.

Opinion Formation in Decision Making Process of Command, Communication, Control, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaisance

ABSTRACT. Our life consist of decision making process, ranging from the easy one and the hard one. In crucial and critical situation where national politics, economics, culture, and health comes into the equation, decision making could be a quite difficult task to do. Adding a time limit makes the task extremely stressful, so it can be handled only by certain people. “Command, communication, control, computer, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaisance” (C4ISR) is one of national defence approach to maintain national security by gathering any related data. Raw data that has been collected by C4ISR then processed to conclude a situation. The conclusions then become a foundation of national defence to choose a suitable act in order to maintain prosperity of a nation. A C4ISR’s decision should be carefully considered before it is finalized, because of its impactful consequences. This paper proposed an opinion formation model, Hegselmann-krause model, to be implemented in the decision making process so a decision maker could see where is the direction of data assimilation would be. It helps any decision maker to act accordingly and, at the same time, shortening data processing in decision making.
