Embedded wireless sensors and actuators are increasingly used to build large-scale distributed systems that do not rely on existing infrastructure, such as wired links or a power-grid. By integrating them into the Internet, these wireless sensing systems become a vital component of the ever growing Internet of Things (IoT). Recently, emerging IoT technologies such as smart homes, smart cities or smart agriculture heavily influenced wireless sensor network (WSN) research and stimulated the deployment of several real-world applications.
However, the practical deployment of WSNs and IoT applications still proves to be cumbersome and not sufficiently automated. Even state-of-the-art algorithms and protocols need to be carefully tuned manually, in order to adapt to the often harsh environmental conditions and/or to the application requirements.
Recently, other applications areas have emerged, such as mobile sensing, crowd sensing, smartphone sensing, and cyber-physical systems. Even if their concepts and approaches differ from each other, these applications share the same real-world problems, which even extend to challenges such as keeping up the interest of human users, and enabling privacy or security. Thus, this edition of RealWSN will extend its focus to include all relevant sensing applications and additional challenges.
Topics:
The 2018 edition of the RealWSN workshop tackles primarily the development and deployment of wireless sensing applications in the real world. Among others, it will gather the best practices from renowned and experienced researchers and practitioners, providing an answer to several open questions, such as how to quickly and efficiently deploy an application in mostly unknown environments.
Sensing applications include, but are not limited to:

Submission Guidelines & Review Process:
Workshop papers (max 6 pages) or demo/poster abstracts (2 pages) together with all relevant documentation (source code, trace files, etc.) should be submitted by August 03, 2018. The same submissions should be previously unpublished, and not currently under review by another conference or journal. Your submission must be in PDF format with all fonts embedded, and be formatted according to the official ACM Proceedings format. Templates are available at: http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates
The collaborative nature of the workshop starts at the review process, where non-blinded comments (reviewers identities will be revealed to authors) about the submitted papers will be provided to the authors for discussion. Works in progress, position papers or the presentation of new challenges are highly welcome.
