The 2021 Neuro-Inspired Computing Elements (NICE) Conference is scheduled to be an hybrid in-person / online conference from March 16-19* (see Venue below). Because NICE 2020 had to be canceled due to the onset of the Covid-19 outbreak, we are planning on transferring the invited and accepted talks to this year's meeting. Like previous workshops, NICE 2021 will focus on the interplay between neural theory, neural algorithms, neuromorphic architectures and hardware, and applications for neural computing technology.
For the 2021 conference, we are accepting new submissions for talks to complement the agenda from last year.
NICE aims to involve diverse participation from all over the world and bring together research communities with universities, government, and industry.
Submission Guidelines
As a workshop, we encourage submissions describing work that is not yet published. Preference will be given towards submissions describing ambitious approaches to bringing neural inspiration into real world computing applications.
For submissions, we will accept either full length papers (6-8 pages) or an extended two page abstract (not including references) that will be reviewed by the program committee. The choice of paper format will not influence decisions. Papers should emphasize the novel aspects of the work and the potential impact on the neural computing community.
From these submissions we will invite a number of short talks, lightning talks, and poster presentations. The preferred mode of presentation should be noted on the submission site.
** If you are revising / updating a submission from NICE 2020 for reconsideration for a talk: Please identify that you are resubmitting a previous submission and highlight what novel research results and advances have been made since the last submissions. Unchanged submissions will not be reconsidered. **
Currently we are undecided on a formal conference proceedings for this year's meeting, since the proceedings from NICE 2020 would apply to this year's meeting. We will revisit this once we determine the number of new submissions accepted to the 2021 agenda.

Venue
NICE 2021 will ideally be a hybrid conference, with in-person attendence at the University of Heidelberg *if possible* and online for all attendees who cannot travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic. At minimum there will be an online conference.
The format and schedule of NICE will be determined as we gain more clarity on the situtation early next year.
