Call for Papers
HARC19 (Humans in the Loop: Enabling and Facilitating Research on Cloud Computing)
HARC stands for Humanware Advancing Research in the Cloud, which is a project to explore, advance, and develop evidence of the impact of the use of human resources—also known as "humanware"—to support and increase the use of cloud-based cyberinfrastructure (CI) by researchers in university environments in North America.
The Pervasive Technology Institute at Indiana University invites submission of papers for the HARC19 workshop at the PEARC19 Conference (https://www.pearc19.pearc.org/), to be held in Chicago, IL from 29 July 2019 – 01 August 2019. The workshop will be held on Monday, 29 July 2019, from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
The HARC19 workshop will explore the important role of humans, in support roles, in making cloud computing useful in research settings. Cloud computing is clearly a type of cyberinfrastructure, which is defined as comprising “computing systems, data storage systems, advanced instruments and data repositories, visualization environments, and people, all linked together by software and high performance networks to improve research productivity and enable breakthroughs not otherwise possible.” This workshop will focus on the "and people" part of cyberinfrastructure, and in particular on the role of people in supporting the use of commercial cloud resources in research.
Papers are sought which cover all aspects of human involvement in cloud-based CI environments. Those submissions which discuss elements of support for commercial cloud resources used for research are particularly desirable. PEARC19 paper requirements will apply: paper manuscripts should be submitted using the ACM sigconf template (https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template) with a page length of 5 – 8 pages.
Authors should submit papers via the EasyChair review site for this workshop: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=harc19. Papers will be reviewed by a panel of experts in the CI area. Authors of papers not accepted for workshop presentations may be invited to present their work as a poster and contribute a condensed paper (up to 4 pages) that will be included as a peer-reviewed paper in the workshop proceedings.
The deadline for paper submission via EasyChair is 11:59 pm in the author’s local timezone, on 24 June 2019. NOTE: Final, camera-ready manuscripts will be due after the workshop, by 09 Aug 2019, so that authors will have the option of refining their papers based on feedback.
Papers not submitted by the deadline will not be included for review.
Please note that at least one author for accepted papers and posters must attend the workshop. The PEARC19 Conference requires that any workshop attendee register for the full conference.
Funding from the Indiana University Pervasive Technology Institute and Microsoft Corporation support this workshop, but the workshop is not vendor specific. Please come and share your experiences in the use and facilitation of any public or private cloud.
