In this new decade, it is increasingly becoming critical for businesses and institutions in emerging economies to transition away from being reactive and opportunistic of local inefficiencies to creating a distinctive value proposition and leveraging technology to serve international markets. This book seeks to offer the key strategic directions for businesses, public sector institutions, non-governmental organizations and international development institutions in emerging economies to be more efficient and sustainably responsible in delivering distinctive value in emerging economies in the next decade.
Submission Guidelines
We welcome research using a variety of methodologies, and at any level of analysis, such as:
- Conceptual papers which propose new frameworks, concepts and approaches based on the review of extant perspectives
- Empirical research papers which focus more on practice and policy directions.
- Teaching cases on thematic areas of the book.
- Interviews and discussions which explore managerial perspectives on new and emerging trends.
- Position papers or short contributions focusing on topics needing or calling for discussion or reconsideration of topics or issues which have received less attention. It should report a clear position on the target topic and should also suggest a proposal or actions regarding the target topic.
- Opinion papers based on published data. Authors should outline and craft selected arguments by bringing original and groundbreaking ideas and imaginative research solutions. They should not expand on opinions by others and should be written in a logical, professionally sound and convincing way.
- Number of Words: 3,500 to 7,000 words excluding references
Concepts presented in each submission should be well explained, noting that the audience are practitioners, professionals and students (higher education).
The book takes a practice-oriented approach in which academic authors are encouraged to pair with practitioners to develop cases, discussions and reviews. This objective is to ensure that the content has relevance to practitioners, professionals and students, providing them with best practices and lessons, which can inform management decisions and strategies in emerging economies in the next decade.
Submission Instructions
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this book, on or before February 28, 2021 or March 31, 2021 (for late submissions).

These reviews will outline strategic directions for the next decade.

- Cases and research papers which detail strategic directions required to leverage human resource capabilities and technological trends (data analytics, artificial intelligence, internet of things, smart applications et cetera) to address expectations.
- New or revised models and frameworks, which explain how businesses and governments can better deliver unique value to consumers and citizens.
- Case examples of new services, products and processes which will matter more to consumers and citizens. Strategic directions on how to respond to marginalized consumers and citizens and foster inclusion.
- Research papers and viewpoints on value co-creation as consumers and citizens become active participants of value creation processes or become responsive and more engaging through new and emerging technologies (blockchain, cryptocurrency, social media, et cetera).
- Cases and discussions on how digital innovations can transform business models in emerging economies in the new decade.
- Cases that explore the interrelationships between disruptive user entrepreneurial behavior and disruptive technologies in emerging economies.
- Cases that explore the advent of fake news and electronic participation of citizens in governance and democracy in emerging economies.
Section Three – The New Face of Public Sector in the New Decade
- Discussions on how leaders in emerging economies can better respond to geopolitical instability.
- Cases and discussions that explore the human resource, technology, policies, financial management principles, developmental programmes, and others – required to develop sustainably responsible and inclusive public sector institutions?
- Cases and research papers that explain how smart applications can facilitate the smarter delivery of public services and the development of smart cities and communities.
- Cases on gender-sensitive development and other developmental priorities that would matter in the next decade.
- Discussions exploring how emerging economies can be effective in public governance, performance and accountability in the next decade.
Section Four – Developing Resilient Economies in the Next Decade
- Cases exploring how leaders in emerging economies can diversify avenues for economic growth, especially beyond agriculture and oil in the next decade.
- Cases exploring the practice and value of sustainability accounting and reporting in emerging economies.
- Cases and discussions on the oil economy and the strategies to enable equitable participation of local businesses in the economy.
- Discussions on the strategies for leveraging digital payments and platforms into the delivery of public services for citizens and consumers.
- Viewpoints and cases on creating resilient and sustainable business models and innovations in all sectors of the economy, especially agriculture, manufacturing, service and telecommunication and technology sectors.
- Viewpoints and cases that address the institutional voids in emerging economies such as the absence of sound financial systems and intermediaries, and lack of infrastructure and regulation to support the growth of markets and businesses.

- Viewpoints and discussions on how governments in emerging economies can be responsive to global epidemics.
- Viewpoints, cases and discussions exploring the nexus between healthcare and digital innovations and platforms in emerging economies
- Discussions with health professionals and administrators on how to transform the delivery of healthcare in emerging economies in the next decade.
- Viewpoints, cases and discussions on multidisciplinary approaches to addressing healthcare challenges in emerging economies.
Section Six – The Green Economy and Climate Change in the Next Decade
- Viewpoints, cases and discussions that explore the expectations of businesses and governments on the development of a green economy.
- Viewpoints, cases and discussions on the climate change in emerging economies, exploring the priorities for the next decade and where we need to go (if we don’t seem to be going there).
- Viewpoints on how citizens and businesses can better join or support the climate change agenda in their local communities.
- Review on the best practices in climate change adaptation and mitigation in the last decade that are worth continuing or innovating for the better.
Section Seven – Making Higher Education More Responsive in the Next Decade
- Viewpoints, cases and discussions that explore the competencies required by industry and the public sector to respond to the expectations and challenges in emerging economies in the next decade.
