The Canadian Linguistic Association will hold its 2019 conference as part of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) from Saturday June 1 to Monday June 3, 2019. Members are invited to submit abstracts representing all areas of linguistics.
You must be a member of the CLA when you present at the conference. To become a member of the CLA or to check your membership status, visit https://www.cambridge.org/core/membership/claacl.
Abstracts may be submitted in two categories: oral presentation (20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions) or poster presentation. We strongly encourage established scholars to submit their abstracts for posters.
There will be a special session in honour of the late Michael Rochemont, focusing on Information Structure. If you wish your abstract to be considered for the special session, please indicate this to the programme committee via email to keir.moulton@utoronto.ca in addition to submitting your abstract to EasyChair.
ABSTRACT REQUIREMENTS
- Abstracts may be no longer than one (1) page, (21.6×27.9cm, 81⁄2×11in.), single-spaced in 12-point font with 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins, excluding references.
- A complete list of references cited in the abstract must also be submitted on a second page.
- Examples, figures, and tables must be included on the first page.
- Abstracts must be in PDF format; if you use phonetic transcriptions or any other special symbols, ensure
- that necessary fonts are embedded.
- To help ensure anonymity, abstracts should not contain excessive references to the authors’ publications and
- should not contain acknowledgements to granting agencies.
- Abstracts should contain:
- a title
- a clear and explicit statement of the research question
- a clear statement of the research context, including key references
- an indication of the main arguments involved, including key examples, if applicable (for research in
- progress, pilot results must be included)
- a statement of the conclusions reached and an assessment of their significance - Authors should identify themselves only on the abstract submission form—abstracts must be anonymous.
- Members are limited to one individual and one joint abstract submission, or two joint submissions.
- Papers must be presented in the language used in the title of the abstract.

TRAVEL GRANTS The CLA will partially cover the travel expenses of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and underemployed members who are members in good standing on 1 June 2019. Information about the reim- bursement procedure will be sent to all members after the annual meeting. BEST STUDENT PAPER AND POSTER CONTEST There will be awards for the best paper and the best poster at the CLA conference written and delivered by one or more students. (Information concerning the selection criteria can be found at http://cla-acl.ca/prix-etudiants-student-awards/). Only presentations authored by students may be considered forthe competition. If your adviser and/or lab director is included as aco-author, you may submit your abstract without their name but acknowledge their contribution in your presentation.
