C3AI: Child-centered Interaction and Trust in Conversational AI
How can we design AI systems that foster trust while encouraging critical thinking and awareness of AI’s limitations in children?
The C3AI: Child-centered Interaction and Trust in Conversational AI workshop at IDC25 invites a diverse community of researchers, practitioners, educators, designers, and professionals to come together and explore the human factors involved in building trust in children toward AI, while also exploring how to encourage critical thinking and awareness of AI’s limitations. We seek submissions on topics such as:
- Key Factors that Foster Trust in AI for Children;
- Designing AI systems that encourage critical thinking and awareness of AI’s limitations;
- Human-centred design for children;
- Ethical considerations for AI systems;
- Assessing AI's impact on children's development.
Our goal is to foster a multidisciplinary dialogue on designing child-centred AI systems that build trust while promoting critical thinking and awareness of AI’s limitations. We emphasize inclusivity, ethical considerations, and safeguarding against potential risks.
How to Participate
Submit a short memo or extended abstract about a project you’re working on, a case study, a question you are struggling with, an idea you’d like to discuss around trust-building in Child-AI interactions. Alternatively, you can submit a concise position paper that could be considered for publication.
You can choose one of the following formats:
- Informal Memos: Share your insights with a one-page memo or extended abstract. This can include project outlines, innovative ideas for discussion, or questions that spark debate on Child-Centered AI. Ideal for researchers, practitioners, educators, and enthusiasts eager to contribute their perspectives and experiences.
- Abstracts: (300-500 words)
- Academic Position Papers (at least 5 pages): Submit detailed explorations following the CEUR-WS CEURART style (https://ceur-ws.org/HOWTOSUBMIT.html). We welcome empirical research findings, theoretical frameworks, presentation of case studies, opinion pieces on key issues, and position statements that contribute to scholarly discourse on Trust-building in Child-AI interactions. Aimed at researchers and academics, these papers should offer some critical reflection and analysis.
- Design examples: (600-800 words)
We also welcome videos and graphics. Submissions will be managed via EasyChair, and up to 20 participants will be selected based on quality and diversity. Accepted papers will be featured on the workshop website, and at least one author must attend and register for both the workshop and the main conference.
Submission will be done via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ccai4ecile
At least one author authors of accepted papers register for both the workshop and main conference and attend the workshop.
Whether you are developing AI systems that support children’s learning and interaction, designing inclusive and ethical AI experiences, or researching the impact of AI on children's trust and development, we welcome your contributions.
Join us in shaping the future of child-centred AI—where technology not only supports learning and curiosity but also empowers children to engage critically and thoughtfully with AI.
