Call for Abstracts Deadline 2nd March, 2020
We would like to bring to your attention that the call for submission of research outputs to the 52nd Annual Conference of the Universities Transport Studies Group (UTSG) has now opened. This time the conference, which is open to students and researchers from any university from around the world, will be hosted by Loughborough University, and will take place between Monday 6th and Wednesday 8th July 2020.
To present at the conference attendees should first submit an abstract by 9am on 2nd March 2020. These will then be considered by the UTSG Executive Committee and corresponding authors will be informed of the panel decision during early April. Presenters will then be required to submit either a full paper or an extended abstract by 9am on 22nd June 2020.
Stage 1: abstract submissions: all abstract submissions this year will be of a maximum of 300 words, with the exception of those submitted for the Smeed Prize which should be 800-1000 words (see later). These should comprise a clear structure that requires mini sections referring to: objective, literature review, methods, results, conclusions.
The deadline for Stage 1 submissions is 9am on 2nd March 2020. Presenters will be notified of the panel decision by 9th April 2020.
Stage 2: paper submissions: at this point, presenters have two options for submitting their research work this year:
-
- They can submit a full paper. Full papers will need to adopt the UTSG template and will be a maximum of 12 pages long. Please note, Smeed Prize entrants will need to submit a full paper to be eligible (see later). The template for full papers, and further information can be found at: http://utsg.net/annual-conference.
- Alternatively they can submit an extended abstract (short paper) of 1000 to 1500 words organised in the following sections: objective, literature review, methods, results, conclusions by the same deadline.
The deadline for Stage 2 submissions is 9am on 22nd June 2020.
Smeed Prize submissions: eligible authors are also invited to enter the competition for the Smeed Prize, which will be awarded to the best paper written and presented by a student from a university in the UK or Ireland: the first prize is £500 and the runner-up prize is £250. The winning paper may also be published in an appropriate journal. Prospective entrants should consult the Smeed Prize regulations at: http://utsg.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/UTSG_Smeed_Rules.pdf.
Abstracts submitted for papers to be entered into the Smeed Prize competition are to be between 800-1000 words and should be supported by a confirmation message from the candidate's supervisor, which must be sent to the conference organisers. Please note that a full paper submission after abstract acceptance is compulsory for the Smeed entrants.

- Further information: This conference is open to transport scholars from universities all over the world.
- Inclusion of papers in the conference does not constitute publication, and papers submitted to a journal for publication may also be submitted to the conference provided that they do not appear in a journal before the conference. Selected papers may, with their author's consent, be considered for publication in a UTSG special issue of a peer-reviewed journal.
