Upper limb prosthetics is a major focus for engineering and clinical researchers, yet the solutions on offer remain still some significant way from matching the human body in terms of both function and appearance. To solve the remaining challenges we need a multi-disciplinary approach and opportunities for informed dialogue between researchers, industry and users. The Trent International Prosthetics Symposium series has provided just such an opportunity, bringing together people from engineering, neuroscience, medicine, prosthetics and other allied health professions to focus on the challenges of designing and fitting better prostheses, supporting people with limb loss and evaluating outcomes. We are therefore delighted to announce the first Call for Papers for the 2019 Trent International Prosthetics Symposium, to be held in Salford, Greater Manchester March 20-22nd, 2019. The theme of TIPS 2019 is “Moving beyond the lab”.
