Call for Papers: Southwestern Philosophical Society Annual Meeting
November 11-12, 2022
University of Nevada, Las Vegas
An association of scholars and philosophers founded in 1936, the Southwestern Philosophical Society provides a forum for philosophical and scholarly research. While SWPS originally served philosophers in the American Southwest, it has been for many years a national and international society. SWPS does follow trends and methods that prevail in the world of Anglo-American philosophy; however, the Society is proud of its pluralism and its tradition of openness where scholars from diverse backgrounds and of all major traditions find their views and philosophical styles taken seriously.
The 2022 meeting of the Southwestern Philosophical Society will be held at The University of Nevada, Las Vegas from November 11-12, 2022. All papers accepted and presented at the conference will be published in volume 39, issue 1 of the Southwest Philosophy Review.
Papers on any philosophical topic are welcome. There are multiple benefits to submitting to the Southwestern Philosophical Society:
- All papers undergo anonymous peer review from two scholars;
- Presented papers will receive a written commentary, published in Volume 39, issue 2;
- While the journal owns the copyrights to the journal-formatted article, the author retains copyright over the words. Thus, the author can potentially expand the conference-length article and publish it in another venue.
Submission Guidelines: Electronic submissions are required and should be submitted to https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=swps2022 Papers must be in PDF format. Papers submitted in any other format cannot be processed. (If accepted for publication, the author must provide a MS Word [.doc/.docx] or Rich Text Format [.rtf]). Papers may not exceed 3,000 words in length (not including notes and references). Papers exceeding this length will not be considered. Submissions should include a word count and 150-word abstract (not included in total word count) on the title page, and should be prepared for anonymous review.
Submission Deadline: The deadline for submissions is July 1, 2022.
Travel Grants: SWPS offers a limited number of $150 travel grants to help defray travel costs. The grants are available to early career philosophers (defined as graduate students or scholars who completed their PhD no more than three years ago) and philosophers from underrepresented groups. Authors who are eligible for these grants should indicate this on the cover page of their submission.
Membership: You must be a member of the society to present and publish in volume one of the journal. Dues may be paid when registering for the conference. To join, send inquiries to Deborah Heikes, The University of Alabama in Huntsville, heikesd@uah.edu.
There will be no conference hotel, but several convenient and affordable options will be shared with participants.
