Submission Guidelines
Please submit an abstract of 750 words or less by February 16, 2018, in any area relevant to philosophy, psychology, and cognitive science. Special consideration will be given to submissions that fit with the four themes to be highlighted at the 2018 meeting: Emotions, Virtue, Agency and Addiction, and Well Being.
Submissions will be refereed and selected on the basis of quality and relevance to philosophy, psychology, and cognitive science. They must be written in a format appropriate for anonymous review and employ gender-neutral language. Individual authors may submit only one abstract as first author, though they may be co-authors on other submissions. All submissions will be considered for oral or poster presentation.
The Conference
The 44th Annual Meeting of the Society for Philosophy and Psychology (SPP) will be held at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, July 11-14, 2018.
Susan Gelman (Psychology, University of Michigan) will deliver the Presidential Address. Keynote speakers will be Lisa Feldman Barrett (Psychology, Northeastern University) and Peter Railton (Philosophy, University of Michigan).
An invited symposium on Addiction and Problems of Agency will include Kent Berridge (Psychology, University of Michigan), Marc Lewis (Psychology, Radboud University), Peg O'Connor (Philosophy, Gustavus Adolphus College), and Hanna Pickard (Philosophy, University of Birmingham). An invited symposium on Epistemic and Moral Virtue will include Igor Grossman (Psychology, University of Waterloo) Kiley Hamlin (Psychology, University of British Columbia), Christian Miller (Philosophy, Wake Forest University), and Lauren Olin (Philosophy, University of Missouri, St. Louis).
There will be an invited symposium honoring the memory of Jerry Fodor (1935-2017), a founding member of SPP and the society's first president. There will also be an opportunity to share personal memories of Jerry at the conference banquet.
The 2018 program will include a pre-conference workshop on recent philosophical and psychological research on well-being. It will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.
SPP Prizes and Awards
The Stanton Prize is awarded to a leading young interdisciplinary researcher.
The William James Prize is awarded to the best student submission.
Attendees will vote on the best poster for the SPP Poster Prize.
SPP has established a fund devoted to increasing diversity within the society. Eligible student presenters are invited to apply for travel awards when submitting via Easy Chair. Travel awards are to be used to cover conference-related expenses, including transportation, lodging, food, and conference registration. A limited number of additional graduate student travel awards will also be allocated.
