يعقد المؤتمر السنوي السادس والعشرون لجمعية المكتبات المتخصصة / فرع الخليج العربي استمرارا للنهج في المؤتمرين السابقين، ويتناول موضوع حديث ومتجدد يتصل بالثورة الصناعية الرابعة وهو المسمى الذي أطلق في المنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي في دافوس بسويسرا، في عام 2016م باسم "الثورة الصناعية الرابعة" للتعبير عن ثورة تقنية ذكية غير اعتيادية وفائقة ومتجددة شهدت تطورات واختراقات تقنية تجاوزت الخطوط الفيزيائية والحيوية والتقنية في مجالات مثل الذكاء الاصطناعي، وبرمجة الروبوتات، وإنترنت الأشياء وسلسلة الكتل البلوكتشين والطباعة الثلاثية الأبعاد والحوسبة السحابية وتقنيات النانو والتداخل الرقمي والواقع الافتراضي وغيرها مما أثر في الاقتصاد والتجارة عموما ونظم الإنتاج، والإدارة، والحوكمة والسلوك والبشري، كما أثرت تبعا لذلك على الخدمات، وقدمت فرصا ومجالات عمل جديدة وأثرت على المؤسسات في كل المجالات.
ومؤسسات المعلومات ومنها المكتبات عرفت منذ الأزل بتأثرها بالتطورات التقنية حتى وان ظهرت في مجالات وفنون بعيدة عنها، ولذلك سارعت ووجب عليها المسارعة في تطوير قدراتها ومساهماتها وتجديد وظائفها وأدوارها ورسم صور مستقبلها بما يتفق وما يمكن أن يدعم رؤيتها التفاعلية واحتياجات المستفيدين.

The twenty-sixth annual conference of the Special Library Association / Arabian Gulf Chapter focusing on the Fourth Industrial Revolution,
which was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in 2016. The new revolution represent Intelligent, non-conventional,
high-tech and renewable technologies that have gone beyond the physical, dynamic and technical areas such as Artificial intelligence, robots programming,
Internet of things, blockchain, holographic printing, cloud computing, Nano technology, virtual reality, etc., affecting the economy and trade in general, production systems,
management, governance and human beings, not only what they do, but also services. new work opportunities and has affected institutions and practices in different ways.
Libraries and Information institutions have always been influenced by technological developments. At the current time, they are forced to enhance their readiness in
adapting technologies that has been developed in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, meeting the requirements, and understanding issues related to security
and intellectual property.
