Call for papers: SDM 18 workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Insurance. May 3-5, 2018.
This workshop is aimed at exploring the opportunities for AI in insurance. Artificial intelligence is becoming a core component of the insurance industry, motivated by the increasing availability of data, including masses of unstructured data, scalable cloud computing, exponential growth in computing power, new modeling tools, and the ongoing drive for operational efficiency and cost reduction. An industry that has been traditionally led by predictive analysis and risk assessment is moving to a whole new level of accuracy and costumer experience through AI. Some of the applications of AI in insurance revolve around claims management, retention analysis, enhancement of customer experience, risk analysis, fraud mitigation, policy pricing, and customer acquisition. With big data and new data sources, such as social media, Internet of Things (IoT), telematics, web logs, video and images, and clickstreams, the opportunity to apply artificial intelligence has never been greater across areas of insurance operation.
The workshop also aims to provide a bridge to connect the artificial intelligence community working in insurance to the SIAM data mining community and to stimulate and facilitate meaningful discussions about the application of artificial intelligence to insurance.
The workshop will focus on research and applications of artificial intelligence (AI) / machine learning (ML) to insurance. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
- Underwriting and pricing analytics
- Fraud and claims analytics
- Customer service analytics and customer retention modeling
- Data mining for Internet of things applications
- Deep learning applications
- Signal processing and Image recognition
- NLP for insurance-related unstructured text
- Recommender systems
- Chatbots
- Time series analysis
