The inaugural "Swinburne Celebrates Research Conference 2017" is a 2-day event providing a platform for sharing research achievements and research practice. The conference will feature renowned key note speakers, oral and poster presentations, opportunities for professional development, industry engagement, mentoring and advice.
The conference will involve notable invited speakers including Nobel Laureate, Professor Peter Doherty and Ms Leanne Harvey, CEO (acting) of ARC, who will give opening keynote speeches on the first day of the conference.
The conference aims to have the broadest possible attendance of research staff and students across Swinburne, comprising participants across all career levels and covering issues across the whole research life cycle.
Submission Guidelines
The following paper categories are welcome:
- Abstracts prepared by Early Career Researchers and PhD candidates, in the length of 500 words are invited, showcasing research, findings and implications for theory and practice. Figures, pictures and charts are encouraged in addition to the 500-word limit.
Abstracts should broadly address our research mission as a university to transform businesses and communities. Yours may have a specific focus on:
- Data science
- Manufacturing futures
- Social innovation
- Health innovation
- Smart cities.
Prizes of $3000, $2000 and $1000 will be awarded at the conference for the best abstracts. They will be judged on the following three criteria by a faculty committee led by the Associate Dean Research:
- content (originality, methods, data analysis and conclusion)
- the clinical, practical and/or theoretical relevance
- the quality of the written text, including fit with the conference and Swinburne research institute themes.
DEADLINE: 5pm, Friday 28 April, 2017
Finalists will be advised by Friday 12 May and will be invited to present their research at our conference on 22–23 June 2017.
- Posters prepared by PhD candidates describing a particular topic of their research are invited.
Present the best poster and win $300! To facilitate maximum participation, all PhD students are invited to present a poster at our two day conference. The posters can feature unpublished or recently published/submitted research work. Workshops will be arranged for all poster presenters to perfect presentation skills.
Please use the following format for the poster submission:
- Title
- Author(s)
- Abstract or summary
- Introduction or background
- Goal of research or methodology, practise or technique
- Details of the research or methodology, practise or technique
- Expected or known research results or practise outcomes
- Relationship to other disciplines, methods or research OR impactions for practise
- Acknowledgements
A PowerPoint file to use as your template along with an example can be downloaded from the links provided. The size of posters will be A0 landscape therefore please don’t adjust the direction of the template.
Posters will be judged on the listed criteria by a Faculty Committee led by the Associate Dean Research (guidelines and judging criteria can be downloaded from here). Prizes for posters are $300, $200 and $100 and all other accepted entries receive a prize of two movie vouchers for contributing to the success of the conference.
Posters can be submitted as either PowerPoint or PDF files and are to be uploaded into the system as a submission. (NO WORD FILES PLEASE!)
DEADLINE: 5pm Friday 12 May, 2017
Finalists will be advised by Friday 26 May. The Faculty Committee will review your file for selection, when approved it will be printed and ready for display in ATC101 for the duration of the conference. After the conference, you may take it with you.
