Introduction
The 3rd Regional ISWIM Seminar (RSWIM3) has been postponed and will now be held from the 6th to the 8th of July 2022 still at the CSIR Convention Centre in Pretoria, South Africa. As a consequence also the dates for abstract submission have been adapted. The theme of the seminar is ‘Optimising Road Freight Transport using WIM Data’. For the seminar ISWIM has joined forces with the annual Southern African Transport Conference (SATC).
Objectives of RSWIM3
- To provide an international platform showing recent developments in WIM technologies, applications, operations, standards and research,
- To facilitate the meeting of users, vendors and researchers from different countries to share and exchange experiences with the use of WIM systems and WIM data,
- To show the status quo in WIM sensor technology and the implementation of WIM systems through an exhibition of WIM vendors and a technical tour to operational WIM sites.
Submission Guidelines
The selection of abstracts/speakers will be based on extended abstracts (about 4 pages) and include sufficient information for a good understanding of the topic to be presented. Abstracts should be submitted before Janaury 31st 2022, authors will be informed on the acceptance of their abstract before March 1st 2022. No full papers will be required. The Program Committee will use the following criteria:
- Relevance of the abstract to the topics,
- Relevance for end-users in the region,
- Technical, scientific and innovative quality,
- Quality and clarity of the presentation,
- Neutrality of the abstract (not commercial).
After the extended abstract acceptance, the authors who wish will be allowed to submit a full paper (8 to 10 pages). This is not mandatory to present at the Seminar. However, the full papers will be reviewed and then published by ISWIM. The accepted abstracts will be invited for oral or poster presentation.
Important:
- You must be one of the authors to submit an abstract.
- The presenting authors are required to register for the seminar by June 1st, 2022, in order to be included in the program of the seminar.
List of Topics
The seminar will cover most of the topics concerning Weigh-in-Motion (WIM):
- Recent advances in WIM systems, sensors, applications, implementation, operation and testing.
- Practical experiences with the implementation and operation of WIM systems and use of vehicle mass data in Sub-Saharan Africa for different applications,
- Use of WIM data for pavement and bridge engineering, preselection for weight enforcement, direct enforcement and tolling by weight,
- Use of mass information in innovations in road transport logistics, Performance Based Standard (PBS), Road Transport Management System (RTMS) and Intelligent Access Program (IAP)/Smart infrastructure Access Policies (SIAP).
